      The Declaration of Independence was duly passed by the American Congress, at Philadelphia, on July 4, 1776, and signed by John Hancock of Massachusetts, President of Congress, on same day. It was duly engrossed on parchment, and on August 2, 1776, it was signed by the above delegates from the respective states.
