Note by Jan Lavine: Additionally, we have Jane Sackett removing her
husband's body, Benj. Sackett (son of Abram G.), from "Dayton's Cemtery".
I cannot find Dayton's Cemetery. Perhaps this is a ghost cemetery,
or no longer visible? I will have to search more about this one.
But I pulled information on the Dayton family from the Smallman index
cards and from the Dayton verticle file. I found "Isaac Dayton
b. 7-22-1791 came to Potsdam May 1, 1815 (1818?) pioneer from Panton Vt
in 1812." And "Isaac Dayton was a pioneer from Panton Vermont in 1812
(history book says) cleared land for settlers.... Son Lyman H. born
in Panton 9-17-1814 to Potsdam in 1817." "Buried in Bacon Cemetery,
Potsdam, died 1/11/1851." In looking through the Potsdam cemetery survey
book, I cannot find Daytons.
There is a Hinman Cemetery with many Bacon graves, but no
Dayton graves. Mary Smallman has put a note of "Bacon Cemetery?"
and another "where is Bacon Cemetery?".
Note the Sacketts lived in the area of the Dayton Family. With Jane
moving Benj P. Sackett, perhaps this cemetery has other Sacketts?
I'll have to check into it. - Jan
