On 27 November 1837, Heman Shepard and wife Nancy of Galen sold to Harry Shepard of the same, land in Galen, being the real estate of Silas Shepard, deceased. On 25 March 1852, Harry Shepard 2nd and Mary Elizabeth his wife, Emily Shepard and Philena Shepard, sold to George Shepard of Galen their interest in the estate of their father, Heman, deceased [Wayne County Land]

He is said to have come from St. Albans, VT, and settle at Shepard's Corners in Galen near Clyde. He and his wife are buried there, his stone called him deacon.

Birth date was calculated. All children listed born in Galen. In "The History of Galen," they author lists the children of Harry as: Albert, Silas, Harvey, Minerva, and Louisa."

On April 12, 1852, Harry Shepard and Harriet his wife conveyed to George Shepard, all of Galen, land in Galen [Wayne County Land].

The death records of Minerva and Harry state the parents as Harry Shepard and Harriet Gordon. That of Louisa states her parents as Harry Shepard and Mary Gordon, but the name Mary is presumed to be erroneous. The chronology makes it impossible for Harry 2nd (Heman's son), who had a wife named Mary Elizabeth, to have been the father of Louisa if her age was anywhere near to 60, the age stated.

There was also an Albert Shepard, birth date at Savannah (near Galen), who married Minnie Chrisler and her children: Frank, birth date 26 Dec 1889, died Galen 1 Feb 1926 age 36 years 1 month 6 days; married Blanche Margaret, birth date Galen 9 Aug 1893, married 20 Feb 1913 Glen Abija Spoor; and Edith, birth date ca. 1895 married at Syracuse, 28 Dec 1916, Lyle Sherman of Butler. Also a Silas, birth date Galen ca 1896; married. Anna E. Bulkley. (editor note).

In regards to your inquiry regarding Silas Shepard -- In the "Landmarks of Wayne County New York". edited by Hon. George W. Cowles and published in 1895 by the D. Mason & Company, Syracuse, NY.

I found no mention of a Silas Shepard in the chapter about the "History of the Town of Galen". The only thing that I did find was a family Sketch of a Harvey Shepard with a son Silas. It might possibly be in the same family.

Pg. 198 -- "Shepard, Harvey, was born on the homestead October 11, 1848. His father, Harry, was a native of St. Albans, Vt., and came to Wayne County in 1817, settling on lot 21 where his descendants now reside. He
married Harriet, daughter of William Gordon, by whom he had five children: Albert, Silas, Harvey, Minerva, and Louisa. Harvey was educated in the common schools, to which had added through life by reading and close
observation. In 1867 he inherited part of the well known Shepard estate of 300 acres, raising fruit, hay grain, and stock; making a specialty of milk dairying, producing from 150 and 200 quarts per day. Our subject is one of
the largest farmers in the town, was elected road commissioner from 1887 to 1893, and takes an intelligent interest in educational and religious matters."
