Charles A. BELDIN - The subject of this brief sketch was
born in Benson, Vermont, June 5, 1817.
He received a classical education, and was married in October,
1842, to Miss L. J. Knapp. In the spring of 1844 he emigrated
to Rock County, Wisconsin, with his father, and together they
located one hundred and seventy-five acres of government land,
and made improvements thereon. Here Mr. Beldin resided until
his death, in 1871, at the age of fifty-three years. Losing his
first wife in the fall of 1846, he afterwards married Miss L.
E. Riley, having a family born to them of three children, - Kate,
Charles, and Cora, - all of whom are living. At the time of his
death, Mr. B. owed a fine farm on sections 23 and 14 [in Johnstown
Township], which is now under a high state of cultivation with
good house, barn, and other buildings, now owned by his heirs.
He was a strong supporter of all religious and educational interests.
Politically he was a staunch Democrat, and had held many township
offices. He was a man of sterling worth, a friend in need, and
one who gave a kindly greeting to all. Successful in the acquisition
of property, he was always one of the most prominent in the community
where he was known, and was ever much respected and esteemed. |
