Ezra D. CHESEBRO - Was born in North Stonington, Connecticut,
April 16, 1814. His father, Henry Chesebro, was born in Old Stonington,
New London County, Connecticut, June 16, 1787. At the age of
twenty-six years he was married to Sarah Williams. They reared
a family of five children, of whom Ezra, the subject of this
sketch, was the eldest. Mr. Chesebro's mother still resides at
Columbus, Wisconsin, at a very advanced age. Mr. Chesebro was
married to Mary A. Eldridge, daughter of Joshua and Bridget Eldridge,
October 16, 1835. He emigrated to Rock County, Wisconsin, in
April, 1848, and located his present farm on unimproved, or what
is commonly known as wild land. The farm is now under a high
state of cultivation, with a fine residence and barn, with other
necessary buildings for stock, grain, etc. He is an enterprising
farmer, devoting his time and money to the breeding and growing
of blooded cattle and Southdown sheep, formerly imported from
England; is also engaged in the dairying business to some extent.
He participated in the organization and naming of the township
of La Prairie, at the meeting held for that purpose in 1849,
at the residence of J. P. Wheeler. He has held the office of
township treasurer for one year, aside from that has never looked
for special gifts of office at the hands of the public. |
