Biographies of Old Settlers

--H. P. Fales--

H. P. FALES - Mr. Fales was born in Pelham, Massachusetts, September 28, 1821. His father, Daniel Fales, was born in Walpole, Massachusetts, October 17, 1792, and now resides in Barry, Massachusetts, at a very advanced age. H. P. Fales remained with his father until he was twenty-one years of age, and afterwards followed his trade for a number of years in different parts of the State. He was married at Troy, New York, May 19, 1856, to Miss Eveline, daughter of John F. and Lana Smith. His family consisted of a daughter and a son, who are still living. Mr. Fales spent four years in California, - two and a half years in the mines and one and a half years in San Francisco. Upon his return in the spring of 1855, he emigrated to Rock County, Wisconsin, and purchased his present farm from Mr. E. H. Bennett, as unimproved land. His farm is now under a high state of cultivation, - to which he has brought it himself, - with a large fine house, barn, and other buildings, and is worth to-day from sixty-five to seventy-five dollars per acre. He is situated only three miles from Janesville, which place affords a good market for all kinds of produce. A fine view of Mr. Fales' residence is published in connection with this work.
