Joseph FELLOWS - The subject of this sketch was born in
Andover, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, on the 8th day of April,
1816, being the fourth child of Nathaniel and Mary Fellows. His
education was received in the common schools of his native State.
His vocation has always been that of a farmer. At the age of
thirteen years he left his native State, removing to Bradford,
Vermont, where he resided until, at the age of twenty-one years,
he emigrated to Rock County, Wisconsin, arriving there in July,
1837. Shortly after his arrival he made a claim of two hundred
and forty acres in Johnstown Township, and the following spring
began improving his place. He was united in married to Ellen
Putnam on the 9th day of February, 1845. She was the daughter
of John and Mary Putnam, who were also early settlers of Rock
County. Mr. Fellows came to the West comparatively poor, but
by dint of careful management and strict industry has acquired
a goodly amount of this world's goods, and is now one of the
wealthy farmers of his township. He has always been a strong
supporter of the principles of the Republican party, and a warm
friend and zealous supporter of religious and educational enterprises.
As a citizen, is highly respected by his friends and neighbors. |
