Loren FINCH - Was born January 29, 1821, in Cayuga County,
New York. He emigrated to Rock County, Wisconsin, in the autumn
of 1844, where he located the farm he now lives on. Was the third
child of Alva and Phoebe Finch, who were also natives of Cayuga
County, New York. His father was born January 23, 1795, and his
mother, April 7, 1798. His education consisted of what could
be acquired in the common schools of his native State. On the
3d day of May, 1856, he was united in marriage to Miss N. J.
Wilcox, daugher of J. D. Wilcox. Mr. Finch's farm, consisting
of two hundred and eight acres, is one of the best improved places
in his township, and under a high state of cultivation. His residence,
barn, and outbuildings are commodius and expensive, reflecting
much credit upon their owner. Mr. Finch has never had any aspirations
for political honor except in local affairs, has served as chairman
of the board of supervisors for two years, was a delegate to
the first meeting, and assisted in the organization of La Prairie
Township. His vocation is strictly that of a farmer and stock
grower, and he is extensively engaged in the growing of the fine
wool, American merino sheep. A lithographic cut of his residence
and surroundings may be seen in the within work. |
