Adelman SHERMAN - The subject of this sketch was born
in Berne, Albany County, New York, January 30, 1820. He received
a common school education, and removed with his parents - Almerin
and Prudence Sherman - to Tioga County, New York, in 1829, and
from thence to Rock County, Wisconsin, in 1844, where he has
since resided. He had but five dollars upon his arrival to Wisconsin,
but the next summer he pre-empted eighty acres of government
land, and earned money to pay for the same in one year. He has
continued to add to his farm until now he has one hundred and
ninety-two acres of prairie and forty acres of timbered openings,
with two fine houses, barns, granaries, and other convenient
buildings. Mr. Sherman was married at the age of thirty-one to
Miss Amanda Cole, in December, 1851, and has had a family of
six children, of who three are now living, - George, Jesse, and
Carrie. Mr. S. has never had a lawsuit; has been a member of
the legislature for three years; town clerk, and also township
superintendent of schools, for a term of years. A view of his
residence
is shown on another page. |
