cense therefore be first obtained as hereinafter provided:
SECTION 2. Every person residing in the city of Beloit owning or having in his or her possession any
dog or bitch, may obtain a license for the same to run at large by paying to the city treasurer the sum of two dollars for a dog and three dollars for a bitch, and presenting to the clerk the treasurer's receipt for the same.
SECTION 3. Upon the presentation of such receipt the city clerk shall issue the license mentioned in
section two for the period of one year.
SECTION 4. Every person who shall have obtained a license for any dog or bitch to run at large shall
keep upon the neck of such dog or bitch a collar with a brass tag attached thereto with the number of the license thereon, which said brass tag shall be furnished to the said owner by the city clerk upon the issuance of the license mentioned in section two.
SECTION 5. The Common Council may, at any time, cause all dogs found running at large, in violation
of this ordinance, to be shot.
SECTION 6. Any person owning or having in his possession any dog or bitch who shall allow the
same to run at large in violation of this ordinance, shall pay a penalty of not more than five dollars nor less than one dollar.
SECTION 7. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force within thirty days from and after its
passage and publication.
Ald. POLLOCK presented the following resolution which was adopted:
Resolved, That the City Surveyor be instructed to establish a sidewalk and terrace grade on Euclid avenue, and
report the same to the Council at the next meeting.
Ald. CUNNINGHAM presented the following resolution and moved its adoption:
Whereas, The city will have to build a new jail this summer as the old jail is not suitable for present use, and as the
new jail will require a room for the patrol wagon and horses, also a police court in second story, and as the present jail site is not wide enough to erect a modern jail; therefore
Resolved, That the Police Committee be directed to see if a building site centrally located can be bought by the city;
if so price of same and the probably amount that the present jail site can be sold for.
On motion the resolution was referred to the Police committee by the following vote the ayes and noes being called:
Ayes - Ald. BUCKERIDGE, CLARKE, DAY, GARDNER, HANSEN, MERRILL, POLLOCK - 7.
Noes - Ald. CUNNINGHAM, GESLEY, HELM, LEDELL, MUELLER, NEEDHAM - 6.
Ald. SHARP not voting.
Ald. CUNNINGHAM presented the following resolution which was adopted:
Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be directed to change the sidewalk crossing on C street at 8th street on
the west side of 8th street to conform with the north and south walks on the west side of 8th street.
Ald. CUNNINGHAM presented the following resolution which was adopted:
WHEREAS, The city of Beloit has notified the Water Works Company according to the contract between the city
and the Water Works Company that the city and the Water Works Company will have an appraisal made of the plant this year. Therefore:
Resolved, That the Water Works committee be authorized to have a map marked showing all the Water Works
mains, the size of same, the number of hydrants, where located and any other information they may deem necessary.
Ald. BUCKERIDGE presented the following resolution which was adopted:
Resolved, That the Sewerage committee be directed to cause the sewers to be flushed and cleaned as may be
necessary.
Ald. DAY presented the following resolution which was adopted:
Resolved, That the Finance committee consider the advisability of issuing and selling sixteen thousand dollars
($16,000) of City Special Improvement Bonds in denominations of one thousand dollars each, payable two thousand dollars each year. Interest not to exceed five per cent and interest to stop on each Bond at its maturity. Committee to report at the next regular meeting of the Council.
Ald. POLLOCK presented the following resolution which was referred to the Fire committee:
