- located on corner of Mill and Broad streets be and hereby
is ordered removed to the corner of Pleasant and Broad
- streets and that the chief of the Fire Department be notified
accordingly.
- Ald. POLLOCK presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Surveyor be instructed to
find grades and report to the Common Council if the storm water
- which occasionally settles on the corner of Eighth street
and Highland avenue and also at the corner of Eighth street and
Euclid avenue can be run north on Eighth street to Bridge street
and east through the sanitary sewer to the river.
- Ald. BUCKERIDGE presented the following resolution
which was referred to the Street Lights committee:
- Resolved, That the committee on Street Lights be directed
and is hereby ordered to cause the street light at the
- intersection of College avenue and Emerson street to be moved
to Pleasant street at the end of Emerson street and also cause
an arc light to be placed at the intersection of Church street
and Emerson street.
- Ald. BUCKERIDGE presented the following resolution
which was referred to the Fire committee:
- Resolved, That the Fire committee be directed and
is hereby ordered to cause a fire alarm box to be located near
- Gridley chapel.
- Ald. LEDELL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Fifth ward committee be instructed
to select a suitable site for a voting place and report to this
- council at the next regular meeting.
- Ald. DAY presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Fire Commissioners be
and are hereby authorized to purchase for the city sundry
- supplies, and make repairs on the apparatus of the Fire Department
that will be needed from time to time during the year.
- Ald. LEDELL presented the following resolution which
was referred to the Street Lights committee:
- Resolved, That a street light be located at the intersection
of Eighth and C streets.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Clerk be directed and is hereby
authorized to procure a certified copy of the records of the
- town of Beloit from 1842 to 1856 for the use of the city
of Beloit as these records are of great value to the city.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That there be levied on the taxable property
of the city of Beloit in the annual tax levy for the year 1900,
- the sum of 100 dollars to provide a fund for the observance
of Memorial or Decoration Day in accordance with the provision
of chapter 124 of the Laws of Wisconsin of 1899. Be it further
- Resolved, That this fund be placed in the hands of
his Honor, the Mayor, and the Commander of L. H. D. CRANE
- Post No. 54 of the G.A.R. of Wisconsin to be disbursed and
accounted for as provided by said chapter 124 of the laws of
1899.
- On motion the Council went into executive session.
- On rising from executive session Ald. NEEDHAM presented
the following resolution which was adopted by the
- unanimous vote of the Council, the ayes and noes being called:
- Resolved, That the city settle case of Maud CARPENTER
against the city for $500 upon condition that the said
- Maud CARPENTER and husband fully release and discharge
the city from all claims and demands which they or either of
them now have against the city and that the said case be dismissed
without costs to either party. Be it further
- Resolved, That $500 be and hereby is appropriated
for that purpose and that the clerk be and he is directed to
draw
- an order on the treasurer, payable to Maud CARPENTER
or bearer, for that amount, to be delivered to her or her attorneys
upon delivery of a proper receipt and stipulation to dismiss
said case.
- The City Sexton's report for the month of April showing receipts
of $295 with Treasurer's receipt attached was
- presented, accepted and placed on file.
- A report from the City Attorney showing the recovery of $125.38
costs in the case of Ella D. ADAMS v. the city of
- Beloit was presented, accepted and placed on file.
- Reports of the City Engineer of grades [continue to Page
