set on Prairie avenue, Park Place, Park avenue, North College street, Emerson street, Eighth street and Brooks street were presented and referred to the Aldermen of the several wards in which the work was done.
The following report from the Chief Engineer of the Fire Department was received, accepted and placed on file:

BELOIT, May 7th, 1900.
To His Honor the Mayor and Members of the Common Council: -
I submit the following as my annual report, to which I have added an inventory of all the property
belonging to the Fire Department:
The horses, wagons and harness are in good condition. There are forty-four hundred feet of hose in
service, of which three thousand feet will stand any fire pressure. The alarm system consists of sixteen miles of wire and 28 street boxes. There have been twenty fire alarms since Jan. 1st and each alarm was reported correctly. The condition of the Central Station is now being considered by the Fire committee. The East Side Station is in complete working order and with its compliment of men has given good satisfaction.
The following is the itemized inventory of equipments and supplies used by your fire department:

HOSE WAGON NO. 1 AND EQUIPMENTS. (CENTRAL STATION.)
1,000 feet of hose, 2 fire extinguishers, 6 rubber coats, 6 rubber hats, 4 fire nozzles, 1 hydrant gate, 1
set double harness, 1 whip, 2 horse blankets, 2 lanterns, 1 12-inch gong, 4 hydrant wrenches, 2 torches, 1 hose wagon.
 
EQUIPMENTS OF HOOK AND LADDER TRUCK STATION NO. 1.
1 truck wagon, 1 set double harness, 1 12-inch gong, 1 whip, 2 horse blankets, 1 deluge set, 1 38-foot
extension ladder, 1 32-foot extension ladder, 1 23-foot single ladder, 1 22-foot extension ladder, 1 16-foot roof ladder, 1 14-foot roof ladder, 2 lanterns, 6 leather pails, 2 pike poles, 2 crowbars, 2 pickaxes, 3 ladder straps, 1 hydrant wrench, 700 feet hose, 2 torches, 3 hose jackets, 200 feet 1/2-inch rope, 4 rubber coats.
 
HOUSE FURNITURE. (STATION NO. 1.)
8 bedsteads, 8 ticks, 8 springs, 14 bed comforters, 8 pillows, 8 bed spreads, 24 sheets, 13 chairs, 1
5-foot extension table and leaves, 1 carpet (50 yards), 1 5-foot step-ladder, 11 pictures, 2 spittoons, 6 towels, 20 pillow cases, 1 large stove, 1 small stove, 2 brooms, 1 clock, 2 oil cans, 1 mail box, 1 sliding pole, 1 dipper, 1 flag, 1 brush and comb, 10 lengths of stove pipe, 1,200 feet of hose on racks, 50 feet 1-inch hose, 2 dozen chemical charges, 10 pairs rubber boots, 1 water gauge, 1 2-wheeled hose cart, 150 feet of 1 1/2-inch rope, 4 harness hangers, 1 wagon jack.
 
EAST SIDE STATION AND EQUIPMENTS.
1 hose wagon, 2 horses, 1 set double harness, 1,900 feet of hose, 2 fire extinguishers, 6 rubber boots,
6 rubber coats, 6 rubber hats, 1 20-foot extension ladder, 1 10-foot ladder, 2 horse blankets, 2 hose jackets, 3 hydrant wrenches, 1 hydrant gate, 2 fire nozzles, 1 ton of hay, 10 bushels oats, 3 brooms, 1 wagon jack, 2 stoves, 3 pails, 6 chairs, 1 brass sliding pole, 1 lantern, 2 oil cans, 5 towels, 6 iron beds, 12 pillow cases, 6 pillows, 12 quilts, 6 wool blankets, 6 bed spreads, 1 extension table, 1 dresser, 1 clock, 50 feet garden hose.
The Mayor announced the following appointments which were confirmed:
Weed Commissioners - First ward, I. E. GOODALL; Second ward, J. F. PEASLEY; Third ward, J. E. PARKER;
Fourth ward, R. H. SHARP; Fifth ward, A T. SABERSON.
Special Police Without pay - Chas. GUETTSCHOW, at Fairbanks, Morse & Co.; D. E. EDWARDS, at
ROSENBLATT & Sons.
A communication from the Secretary of the League of Wisconsin Municipalities was received and referred to the
Judiciary committee.
A communication was received from the State Geological Survey in regard to testing macadam material and was
placed on file.
Ald. POLLOCK moved that the Council proceed to the election of a Chief Engineer of the Fire Department.
Carried.
On ballot being taken 14 votes were cast of which E. E. GOSS received 13 and O. W. SMITH 1.
