    Ald. MUELLER presented the following petition:

To the Honorable Mayor and Common Council of the City of Beloit: -
We the undersigned property owners of the City of Beloit petition your honorable body to leave fire
alarm box No. 16, located at the corner of Broad and Mill streets, in its present location, as the houses are much closer than ever before.
        (Signed) John WELCH, D. P. NICHOLS, E. W. HOLLOWAY and 11 others.
Ald. DAY moved that the petition be laid on the table. Supported and lost by the following vote, the ayes and noes
being called:
Ayes: Ald. DAY, POLLOCK - 2.
Noes: Ald. BUCKERIDGE, CLARKE, CUNNINGHAM, GARDNER, GESLEY, HANSEN, HELM, HEWITT, LEDELL, MERRILL, MUELLER, NEEDHAM, SHARP - 13.
On motion the petition was then referred to the Fire committee.
Ald. LEDELL, for the Fifth ward Aldermen, presented the following report and resolution, which were adopted by the unanimous vote of the Council, the ayes and noes being called:

BELOIT, WIS., May 21, 1900.
To the Mayor and the Common Council: -
Your committee to whom was referred the matter of selecting a site for a voting place would
respectfully report and recommend the adoption of the following resolution:
Resolved, That the sum of ten hundred and fifty dollars be appropriated for the purpose of purchasing
lot 1, block 7, MERRILL's Addition to Beloit, said property to be used as a voting place for the Fifth ward and for such other purposes as the Council may deem necessary; and that the Mayor, City Clerk and City Attorney be instructed to examine the deed and title, and upon finding the same perfected, that they be authorized to execute the same in behalf of the City of Beloit.

Ald. DAY, for the Aldermen of the Third ward, reported on the report of the City Engineer of grade set on Eighth
street between E and D streets, recommending that the grade already established be not changed. Adopted.
Ald. CLARKE, for the Street Lights committee, reported recommending that the resolution for street light at the
intersection of Eighth and C streets be referred to the Aldermen of the Third and Fifth wards for consideration and report. On motion the report was adopted.
Ald. CLARKE, for the Street Lights committee, reported on the petition for a street light at the intersection of Vine
and Middle streets recommending that a light be placed at the intersection of Oak and Middle streets. On motion report was adopted.
Ald. CLARKE, for the Street Lights committee, reported on the petition for a street light on South Race street south
of the Milwaukee elevator recommended that the petition be granted. On motion the report was adopted.
Ald. SHARP, for the Police committee, presented the following report:

Your committee on Police reports that they have investigated and find that all lots centrally located
are too expensive for the city to purchase at the present time. We therefore recommend the two following plans for the Council to decide which one to make use of:
1st. To repair the old jail by raising the walls about five feet and raising the floor to the required
height, 2 or 3 feet, whichever is necessary, and a new roof and such other repairs as may be required.
2nd. Put another story upon the City Hall and use the whole building for city purposes.
