- Ald. SHARP, for the Aldermen of the Third and Fourth
wards, presented a report on the City Engineer's report of
- levels on Brooks street accepting same. On motion the report
was received and placed on file.
- Ald. GESLEY presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be instructed
to build a cross walk over Hackett street connecting with
- the walk on the south side of D street.
- Ald. GESLEY presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Engineer be and is hereby
instructed to take levels on Oak and D streets and E and Vine
- streets to ascertain the best way of draining said streets.
- Ald. MERRILL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Committee on Public Property be
authorized to purchase two lawn mowers for the use of the city
- cemetery.
- Ald. MERRILL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- WHEREAS, on March 6th, 1899, a petition with the name of
sixty property owners attached was presented to the
- Council, asking for electric lights at the intersection of
Hackett and Liberty streets, and the intersection of Liberty
and Eighth streets, the said petition being referred to the Street
Lights committee, which committee reported back to Council without
recommendation. Therefore be it
- Resolved, That the said petition be referred to the
Street Lights committee for further consideration.
- Ald. GESLEY presented the following resolution which
was referred to the Judiciary committee:
- WHEREAS, Our city is being constantly sued for damages for
injuries resulting from defective sidewalks, and as
- many property owners are negligent in keeping their sidewalks
in proper repair, therefore be it
- Resolved, That on and after the adoption of this resolution
all sidewalks ordered laid or relaid shall be either laid with
- brick, stone or artificial stone, except in the thinly settled
parts of the city where walks are very little used they be laid
with two inch plank; no plank walk, however, in any part of the
city will be permitted to be built without the consent of the
city council. Any person intending to lay or relay any public
sidewalk not ordered by the council, will, before making any
preparation for laying same, give a written notice of such intention
to the council so that the council can properly act on same as
to what kind of material and also width of walk.
- And be it further, Resolved, That it shall be one
of the duties of the sidewalk inspector to see that all walks
ordered
- laid or relaid or permitted to be laid or relaid are laid
according to the established grade.
- Ald. NEEDHAM presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Engineer be ordered to establish
sidewalk grade on south side of Clary street between
- College street and Church street.
- Ald. LEDELL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be instructed
to repair the sidewalk crossing on the north side of C street
- crossing Elm street, the same to be done at once.
- Ald. DAY presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be and is
hereby instructed to cause a brick sidewalk and gutter to be
- built in front of the east side fire station; the sidewalk
to connect with the platform or driveway.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Council, the ayes
- and noes being called:
- Resolved, That an order be drawn on the City Treasurer,
payable from funds in his hands for such purposes, for the
- sum of eighty dollars ($80) to pay series number three of
interest coupons, due June 1st, 1900, on General Improvement
bonds; such order to be made payable to the order of MASON,
LEWIS & Co. of Chicago, Illinois.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
