Ald. BUCKERIDGE presented the following petition, which was referred to the Health and Sewerage committee:

Chi. & North-Western Ry. Co., Division of Engineer's Office, Madison Division.
Baraboo, Wis., June 30, 1900.
Gentlemen: Inasmuch as the Chicago & North-Western Railway Co. is now constructing in your city
a permanent freight station, together with the necessary tracks to accommodate the same, and a new freight yard for the loading and unloading of carload shipments; and as in order to complete this improvement requires the filling of Rock river along its south shore for a distance of 250 feet in length, with a maximum width not to exceed 35 feet. And as to do said filling would obstruct the outlet of the city's sanitary sewer which is now located on the property of the said Chicago & North-Western Ry., you are respectfully requested to authorize this Company, at its own expense and under the supervision of your City Engineer, to construct an extension to this sewer of not to exceed fifty feet in length, same to be made of good sound eighteen-inch vitrified pipe on a good stone and cement foundation, and to be provided with a first-class brick manhole with cast-iron manhole cover two feet in diameter. This Company to do at its own expense any dredging necessary at the outlet of this sewer when it shall have been extended, to properly submerge the end of the cast-iron outlet pipe, and to give the same flow to sewerage passing through this sewer as it now has.
          Respectfully submitted,
          B. J. SWEATT,
          Acting Division Engineer.
