Ald. CUNNINGHAM presented the following resolution as a substitute for the report of the Fire committee:

To the Honorable Mayor and Common Council of the City of Beloit: -
Whereas the resolution offered by Ald. DAY calls for advertising for bids to build a new fire station,
which will cost from five to seven thousand dollars, and as the city will have to borrow the money for said improvements and pay interest on the same, and as our present fire station is a good solid stone building and can be repaired and made a first class fire station at a comparatively small cost, Therefore,
Resolved, That this Council does not deem it wise or expedient to build the new fire station according
to plans and specifications, and that the Fire committee be directed to have plans and specifications prepared for the following repairs on the present fire station:
1. Take out front stone pier and put in eleven feet wide doors in center with windows on each side
with iron beams and posts to hold same up.
2. Take out the 12x12 beam that is below the ceiling in main room and put in suitablel iron beams to
hold ceiling and floor from settling.
