- Ald. GESLEY presented the following resolution, which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Engineer be instructed to
prepare sidewalk grade and set stakes for walk and terrace on
the
- south side of C street between Elm and Eighth streets.
- Ald. POLLOCK presented the following resolution, which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the city surveyor be instructed to
set stakes for a sidewalk grade on east side of Oak street from
E
- street to Locust street.
- Ald. DAY presented the following resolution, which
was referred to the Fire Commissioners:
- Resolved, That E. HENDING, the second driver
at the East Side Fire Station, receive forty-five dollars per
month
- from September 1st, 1900.
- Mr. C. B. SALMON addressed the Council on the matter
of the expense of lowering the water mains on Euclid
- avenue.
- On motion of Ald. CUNNINGHAM, the question was referred
to the Judiciary committee.
- Ald. DAY, for the Fire Commissioners, reported recommending
the adoption of the resolution increasing the pay of
- E. HENDING.
- On motion the report and resolution were adopted.
- Ald. MUELLER presented the following resolution, which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be and is
hereby ordered to have cross walk built on south side of
- Bushnell street across Central avenue.
- Ald. MUELLER presented the following resolution, which
was referred to the Judiciary committee:
- WHEREAS, upon certain occasions, it is deemed advisable for
the aldermen of this city to wear a badge of office,
- now therefore be it
- Resolved, That the City Clerk be directed to purchase
fifteen stars, one for each alderman, to be marked "Alderman-
- City of Beloit." The said stars shall be the property
of the city and [s]hall be returned to the city clerk by each
retiring alderman.
- Ald. GARDNER presented the following resolution, which
was adopted:
- WHEREAS, It was the understanding that all repairs and improvements
on the road bed of Highland avenue,
- between Eighth and Hackett streets were to be paid for by
the property owners on that portion of said street, and as under
the present condition it is doubtful that the cost can be collected
from these property owners,
- Resolved, That all previous action by this council
on this matter, be and hereby is rescinded, and that the Board
of
- Public Works are ordered to smooth the surface of this street
so as to make it passable and safe at the least practicable expense
and to do no further work on it until arrangements are made with
the property owners that are satisfactory to this Council.
- Ald. POLLOCK presented the following resolution, which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be instructed
to advertise for bids for the construction of a storm water
- sewer on Eighth street and Vernon avenue, according to plans
and specifications prepared by the City Surveyor and in hands
of the City Clerk.
- Ald. NEEDHAM presented the following resolution, which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Engineer set stakes for sidewalk
on the west side of Milwaukee Road, between Strong
- avenue and White avenue.
- Ald. NEEDHAM presented the following resolution which
was referred to the Health and Sewerage committee:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be and hereby
are directed to cause to be cleaned and opened the gutter
- on the east side of Pleasant street between Lawton avenue
and Eclipse avenue, and that culverts be placed on the east of
Pleasant street across Lawton avenue and Park Place so that the
flow of surface water along the east side of Pleasant street
shall be unobstructed.
- Be it further Resolved, That the Board of Public Works
be instructed to cause
