- dition that part of Vine street between Middle and North
streets, and to put in gutter on both sides of same, extending
said gutters under the crosswalk on the north side of Middle
street, thence going east to the ravine, the cost to be charged
to the abutting property, and the City Engineer be instructed
to set street grade stakes for the said part of Vine street.
- Ald. MERRILL presented the following resolution which
was referred to the Judiciary committee:
- Whereas, residents of other cities, town and villages are
buying burial lots in our city cemetery, thus cutting short the
- supply that should be kept for sale to actual residents of
our own city; and whereas it is now impossible to purchase land
adjoining the city cemetery for burial purposes it thus compels
us to sell only to actual citizens of our own city therefore
be it
- Resolved, That no more burial lots be sold to any
one not an actual resident of the city of Beloit. And be it further
- Resolved, That no burial lots will be sold to any
person for the purpose of re-selling or disposing of same in
any
- manner to any one not a resident of the city of Beloit.
- Ald. POLLOCK presented the following resolution which
was lost on a tie vote, the Mayor voting no:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be instructed
to spread a coating of broken stone on the part of Euclid
- avenue just east of Eighth street so that the street will
be in passable condition.
- Ald. CUNNINGHAM presented the following resolution
which was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Engineer be instructed to
prepare a sidewalk grade on the east side of Ninth street between
- D and C streets.
- Ald. CUNNINGHAM presented the following resolution
which was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Mayor and the Finance committee
be and they hereby are authorized to make such loans until
- December 19th, 1900, as are necessary to pay the current
expenses of the city, as per bill properly audited and allowed
by the Common Council, giving notes of the city signed by the
Mayor and the City Clerk.
- Ald. GESLEY presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Engineer be instructed to
establish sidewalk grade and terrace line on the north side of
D
- street from Hackett to Moore street, on the west side of
Lincoln avenue from E to C street, on the west side of Moore
street from D to C street.
- Ald. NEEDHAM presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the City Engineer set stakes for sidewalk
on the north side of Clary street between Church and
- Pleasant street, and that a brick crossing be placed on the
west end section across Pleasant street.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That a crossing be and is hereby ordered
built on the east side of Eclipse avenue at the Park Place
- intersection.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Committee on Police be directed
to investigate and report to this Council at its next regular
- meeting as to the advisability of renting some suitable room
for police headquarters and to ascertain and report as to what
room they may find available for such purpose and on what terms
such rooms could be procured.
- Ald. HELM presented the following resolution which
was referred to the Aldermen of the First ward:
- Resolved, That permission be granted owners of property
abutting on west side of Central avenue between Bushnell
- and Chapin streets to build a sidewalk on proper grade, not
to exceed eleven feet from property line to west edge of said
sidewalk.
- Ald. HELM presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- WHEREAS, The time for opening negotiations with the Beloit
Water Works Co. looking toward the purchase of
- their water works system is fast approaching; Now therefore
be it
- Resolved, That the Water Works committee be and hereby
are instructed to request said company to submit an
- inventory of its real and personal property comprising said
system and also to state the price for which it is willing to
sell said system of water works to this city.
