- Ald. MERRILL, for the Aldermen of the Fifth ward,
presented the following report and resolution which was laid
- over until the next meeting of the Council:

- We the Fifth ward aldermen to whom was referred
the within resolution would report as follows:
- Resolved, That
we deem it expedient that Vine street between Middle and North
streets be brought to
- an established grade and graded, the expense
of laid improvement to be paid in whole by the property owners
to be benefited thereby, as the benefits accruing to such property
may be determined.
- And before above improvements or any change
of any grade on said street be ordered made, the
- Board of Public Works is hereby ordered to
view the premises and determine the damages and benefits which
will accrue to each parcel of real estate by any change or alteration
of grade it may be necessary to make, and determine the entire
cost of the contemplated work or improvement upon the said street;
the benefits and damages that will accrue to the several parcels
of real estate by such work or improvement and the amount that
should be assessed under the provisions of Ordinance A to each
parcel of such real estate as benefits accruing thereby such
contemplated improvement. And the Board of Public Works is hereto
by ordered to take any further action necessary under the provisions
of Ordinance A to carry out said contemplated improvement and
report to the common council at as early a date as practicable.

- Ald. SHARP, for the Aldermen of the Fourth ward, presented
a report recommending the adoption of sidewalk
- grades as set by the Engineer on both sides of Euclid avenue
between Eighth and Hackett streets. On motion the report and
grades were adopted.
- Ald. SHARP presented the following resolution which
was referred to the Street Lights committee:
- Resolved, That the Street Lights committee cause a
gas light to be place opposite Garden Lane on the north side
of
- Bridge street, the lamp to be the same as the one near the
N.W.R.R. tracks.
- Ald. SHARP presented the following resolution, which
was referred to the Board of Public Works with direction to
- take action in the matter:
- Resolved, That the drinking fountain on the west side
be put in good condition and that the flow pipe be put in such
a
- way as to avoid the necessity of having to renew the faucets
so often as we now have to, and the draining of the upper basin
fixed in such a way as will prevent freezing during the winter.
- Ald. SHARP presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Police be instructed to prevent
the ice men washing their ice at the public water fountains,
both as
- a sanitary measure for the health of the people and to prevent
the slop and mess in the street.
- Ald. BUCKERIDGE presented the following resolution
which was adopted:
- Resolved, That the committee on Public Property be
directed to cause this Council Chamber to be thoroughly
- cleaned.
- Ald. LEDELL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That a sidewalk grade be established and
a sidewalk laid on the east side of 8th street between C and
- Merrill streets, subject to the approval of the Council.
- Ald. LEDELL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be authorized
to build sidewalk crossings of brick or plank on the north
- side of Merrill street, crossing Lincoln and Garfield avenues
and Moore street.
- Ald. LEDELL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be authorized
to build a plank sewer across Vine and Bluff streets on the
- north side of North street so as to drain surface water from
the north-west part of the city.
- Ald. MERRILL presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That one hundred and fifty loads of gravel
be furnished the city cemetery for the purpose of raising the
- streets in the lower portions of cemetery, the work to be
under the supervision of the City Sexton.
- On the motion of Ald. NEEDHAM the Council then adjourned.
