Regular meeting.
Mayor SMITH presiding.
Present - Ald. BUCKERIDGE, CLARKE, CUNNINGHAM, GARDNER, GESLEY, HANSEN, LEDELL,
MERRILL, MUELLER, NEEDHAM, SHARP - 11.
Absent - Ald. DAY, HELM, HEWITT, POLLOCK - 4.
The minutes of the meeting of Dec. 3rd and 10th were read and approved.
Ald. CLARKE for the Aldermen of the First ward presented the following report:

Beloit, Wis., Dec. 17, 1900.

To the Mayor and Common Council:
Your committee to whom the within resolution was referred for a new cross walk on west side of
Central avenue, crossing Hubbard place, would recommend that the same be not granted.
On motion the report was referred to the Aldermen of the First ward by the following vote, the ayes and noes being
called:
Ayes - Ald. BUCKERIDGE, GARDNER, HANSEN, LEDELL, MERRILL, NEEDHAM - 6.
Noes - Ald. CLARKE, CUNNINGHAM, GESLEY, MUELLER, SHARP - 5.
Ald. MERRILL for the Public Property committee presented the following report which was accepted and place
on file:

To his Honor the Mayor and members of the Common Council:
Your committee on Public property who were instructed to confer with the City School Board in
relation to converting the southern portion of the High School grounds into a park, report that they have met and discussed the subject with them, and find them all willing to concur in the project depending on the action of the Common Council. But before they or the Common Council can do anything positive in this direction, a school meeting of the district will have to be called and a vote of the people obtained sanctioning such action, and transferring the right to the city for that purpose as the town is also interested in the transfer.

    Ald. HELM appeared and took his seat.
    Ald. CUNNINGHAM for the Bridge committee presented the following report which was adopted:

Your Bridge Committee to whom was referred the resolution to examine and to report as to the
conditions of the bridges would respectfully report and recommend that two new iron bridges be ordered built, one across Turtle Creek, and one across Rock River on South Bridge street, and that the Bridge Committee be directed to receive plans, specifications and bids as to the cost of said bridges and report to this Council.

    Ald. CUNNINGHAM for the Bridge committee presented the following resolution which was adopted:

Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be, and it is, directed hereby to notify the Berlin Machine
Works to repair the covering of its flume over the race at once. Be it further
Resolved, That if the said Berlin Machine Works refuse so to do, that the Board of Public Works be,
and it is, directed to make said repairs at once.

Ald. CLARKE for the Street Lights committee presented the following report which was adopted by the unanimous
vote of the Council, the ayes and noes being called:

To the Hon. Mayor and Common Council:
Your committee on Street Lights to whom was referred the petition of the Beloit Electric Co. for the use
of $50 withheld from their bill for July service, would recommend that the sum of $35 be allowed from amount so deducted and withheld, believing that a fair allowance for such service.
