- sand eight hundred and fifty dollars ($3,850.00) be, and
the same is hereby appropriated to pay hydrant rentals for the
period of six months, ending December 31, 1900, and the City
Clerk is hereby directed to issue an order for the above sum
in favor of Edward P. SALMON, trustee of the bond-holders
of the Beloit Water Works Company, taking his receipt in full
payment of all claims against the City for hydrant rentals to
date above stated.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Council, the
- ayes and noes being called:
- Resolved, That the Clerk be and is hereby ordered
and directed to draw an order for $50.00 on the Treasurer,
- payable to the Mayor out of the proper fund, to defray expenses
of observing Decoration day, 1900, and that the Mayor be directed
to deliver said order to the Grand Army Post in this city upon
receipt of an order of the commander of said Post, all of which
is provided for in Chapter 124 of the laws of Wisconsin for 1899.
- The Mayor officially notified the Council on the death of
Supervisor Thomas B. BAILEY.
- Ald. HANSEN, for the Street Lights committee, reported
recommending the payment of $321.00 on the bill of the
- Beloit Electric Co. On motion the bill was allowed and ordered
paid in amount as recommended by the unanimous vote of the Council,
the ayes and noes being called.
- Ald. MUELLER, for the Fire committee, presented the
following report and moved its adoption:

- A motion to rerefer to the Fire committee was lost by the
following vote, the ayes and noes being called:

MERRILL, SHARP - 5.
- Noes - Ald. CUNNINGHAM, GARDNER, HELM,
LEDELL, MUELLER, NEEDHAM, POLLOCK

- The report was then adopted and petition granted.
- Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That a fire alarm box be located at the
tail race bridge near the Beloit Iron Works plant.
- The report of the City Sexton for December showing receipts
of $33.00 with Treasurer's receipt attached was
- presented, accepted and placed on file.
- The report of the Police Justice for December was presented,
accepted and placed on file.
- The reports of the City Marshal for November and December
were presented, accepted and placed on file.
- Ald. HELM moved that the Mayor appoint a committee
of one alderman from each ward to draft resolutions of
- condolence on the death of Supervisor T. B. BAILEY.
- The Mayor appointed as such committee Ald. HELM, HANSEN,
CUNNIGHAM, POLLOCK, LEDELL.
- On motion the Council went into executive session.
- On rising from executive session Ald. HELM, for the
Water Works committee, presented the following resolution
- which was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Council:
- Resolved, That E. C. DAVIS, a disinterested
free holder residing at Northampton, Mass., be, and he hereby
is
- chosen by the city of Beloit, as an appraiser, to determine
the value of the system of Water Works in this city, owned and
operated by the Beloit Water Works Co. Be it further
- Resolved, That the Beloit Water Works Co. be and hereby
is notified to choose an appraiser as by the provisions
- of Ordinance No. 12 of the city of Beloit it is bound to
do for the same purpose purpose and to notify the city of Beloit
as to the name and place of residence of the appraiser so chosen
by it. Be it further
- Resolved, That the city clerk be, and he hereby is
ordered and directed to serve a copy of this resolution upon
the
- Beloit Water Works Co.
- Ald. HELM, for the Water Works committee, announced
the appointment of Mr. C. E. JONES as representative
- of the City to assist in taking the inventory of the water
works plant.
- On motion the Council then adjourned.
