lot 13 to 24 inclusive on the south side of said block according to the recorded plat thereof.
Your petitioners show that said alley proposed to be vacated and discontinued on the annexed
tracing or map and is marked on said map in blue and indicated thereon "alley to be vacated."
Your petitioners state and show that the purpose of said vacation is to give an unbroken tract of land
for the purpose of a school site contracted for by District No. 2 of the city of Beloit.
Your petitioners further show that the petition is signed by the owners of all the lots or lands abutting
on said alley on either side and between the street lines of West street and Grand Ave. as above set forth.

    The following communication, with proposed ordinance accompanying, was presented to the Council:

Beloit, Wis., Jan. 21, 1901.

To the Honorable, the Mayor and Common Council of the City of Beloit, Wisconsin.
H. H. CLOUGH, of Elyria, Ohio, hereby respectfully applies to your honorable body for a franchise,
giving authority to construct, maintain and operate an electric street railway, on certain streets, public ways, highways and bridges of the city of Beloit, Wisconsin.
Herewith accompanying this application and a part thereof, is a proposed ordinance which contains in
legal form, authorities and privileges asked for by said H. H. CLOUGH.
It is the intention of said H. H. CLOUGH, in the event of your honorable body granting him a fran-
chise, to commence as soon as practicable, and to speedily complete a first class electric street railway in your city and therefore after maintain and operate it so as to afford the highest efficiency and service.

Ald. HANSEN presented the following resolution, which was adopted:
Resolved, By the Mayor and Common Council of the city of Beloit, Wisconsin, that the proposed franchise of H. H.
CLOUGH, filed with the City Clerk and presented to the Council, be and the same is hereby ordered to be printed, at the expense of the applicant, in the official paper of this city for two weeks, as provided by Section 940B, of the Wisconsin Statutes for the year 1898.
Ald. BUCKERIDGE presented the following petition, which was laid on the table:

To the Honorable, Mayor and Common Council of the City of Beloit:
The undersigned owner of property abutting on Block 50, Public Avenue, respectfully petitions your
honorable body and requests that you do not grant any license or franchise authorizing the construction of a street railway along said Block 50, Public Avenue.

body and request that you do not grant any license or franchise authorizing the construction of a street railway along said Pleasant street.
