of the City of Beloit.
- Gentlemen: -
- The undersigned owners of property abutting
on School street respectfully petition your honorable
- body, not to grant any license or franchise
authorizing the construction of a street railway on said School
street. There being two of the largest churches on this street,
it will seriously interfere with the services of the same.

- A petition was received from F. O. SCHMAUSS for license
to keep one pool table at his saloon and was referred
- to the License committee.
- Ald. POLLOCK for the Judiciary committee presented
the following report which was adopted:

- Your committee recommend that the City Engineer
be instructed to recommend a grade and submit to
- the Common Council a profile of Fourth street.

- Ald. HELM presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Water Works committee be and it
hereby is authorized and empowered to incur, on behalf of the
- city any expense which it shall deem necessary and proper
in the matter of the appraisal of the system of water works of
the Beloit Water Works company in this city. Be it further
- Resolved, That the City Attorney be and he is hereby
directed to attend upon the meetings of said appraisers, so far
- as is necessary, on behalf of the city.
- Ald. HELM presented the following resolution which
was adopted:
- Resolved, That the Beloit Water Works company be,
and it hereby is required to make a test, as to the capacity
and
- efficiency of its system of water works in this city some
time during the present week, at a time to be designated by the
Water Works committee, the said test to be conducted at such
places as said committee shall designate. Be it further,
- Resolved, That the said company be requested, in making
said test, to first use the pumps in both stations working at
- the same time. That it then shut off the pumps in the west
side station and continue said test pumping only from the east
side station and that it then shut off the pumps in the east
side station and continue the test pumping only from the pumps
in the west side station, so that the efficiency of said system
may be determined in case the pumps in one of the said stations
should be disabled.
- The said committee is hereby directed to notify said company
as to the time and place of making said test as soon as
- determined by it. Be it further
- Resolved, That the City Clerk be, and he hereby is
directed to serve a copy of this resolution on said company and
- that such service upon said company shall be deemed notice
to make said test as hereinbefore stated.
- Ald. HELM presented the following resolution which
was referred to the Judiciary committee:
- Resolved, That Fourth street be brought to a permanent
grade from the north side of Bridge street to the north side
- of E street, and the Board of Public Works be hereby instructed
to proceed at once to make arrangements and cause the same to
be paved with brick as soon as practicable.
- Ald. LEDELL, for the License committee, reported recommending
granting petition of F. O. SCHMAUSS for
- license to keep one pool table.
- On motion the report was adopted and license granted.
- On motion a proposed ordinance, entitled as follows, was
taken up for consideration:

- An ordinance to vacate an alley running east
and west through the center of Block Two of FLUEKIGER's
- Second Addition to Beloit, Wis.
- The Mayor and Common Council of the city
of Beloit do ordain:

- On motion the proposed ordinance was read the first time
in full and the second time by title.
- On motion all rules interfering with the immediate passage
of the ordinance were suspended by unanimous consent.
