June 5, 1917, was the day set for the registration of all
young men between the ages of 21 and 31. Messrs. J. B. Pierce
and L. J. Stair had charge of the work in Brodhead. J. B.
Nolty of Spring Grove and Arthur Pierce of Decatur, all supervisors.
These same men later had charge of the Liberty Loan Drives. 100
men registered in Brodhead, 83 in Spring Grove, and 64 in Decatur.
In February, 1918, all men over 21 of German birth, who were
not fully naturalized, were required to register with the
local postmaster, Mr. P. T. Moore. Later this registration
was required of all alien enemies.
Sept. 12, 1918, all men between 18 and 45 years of age were
required to register.
