April 19, 1918, a Brodhead Branch of the Loyalty Legion was
organized with Mr. G. E. Dixon as president, the object
of the Legion being to work in all ways possible to help
win the war, and to assist all other patriotic undertakings.
Membership fee was but 25 cents and all citizens were urged to
join. At the behest of the Legion all business places displayed
the Flag.
Before the local chapter dissolved in 1919, it was voted
to present to every local man, who served in the war, a
certificate of appreciation. The certificates were beautifully
engraved with the shield of the nation in colors and signed by
the Mayor, Walter Douglas, in behalf of all citizens. These certificates
are among the cherished treasures of the boys.
