Our Community Activities

Bureau for Returning Men (p. 70)

At a community meeting held in January, 1919, a Bureau for Returning Soldiers and Sailors was formed. This was to
help in securing aid or employment for all who wished or needed it. Mr. W. H. Fleek was chosen manager. Happily the Bureau was little needed in our district.

Wisconsin Headquarters (p. 70)

Gov. Philipp appointed a committee to maintain Wisconsin Headquarters in the Hall of States, in New York City, for
the purpose of welcoming returning soldiers on their arrival from overseas. Mrs. Belle Hall Lewis and Mrs. B. R. Clawson, Jr., acted as hostesses in behalf of this community, and left nothing undone in caring for the Green County boys as they returned.
