Women's Work (p. 70)

In July, 1917, through the Woman's Committee of the County Council of Defense, Miss Agnes Boeing of the University
of Wisconsin Extension Division, gave a lecture and practical exhibition of the canning of fruit and vegetables to the women of Brodhead, at the High School.
In September, under the auspices of the Civics Club, Miss Emma Conley of the University gave a talk to the women of
the city, on the use and conservation of foods, telling of the necessity for restricting the use of wheat, meat and fats. Under the same auspices, Miss Abby Marlatt, Director of the Home Economics Department of the University of Wisconsin, and member of the National Food Administration, delivered a lecture on Woman's War Work, at the Congregation Church in March, 1918.
In December, 1918, the Civics Club engaged Prof. George Wagner of the University of Wisconsin, who had so
interested a Brodhead audience before, for a second lecture. Prof. Wagner spoke at this time on Reconstruction.
Under the direction of the Mothers' Club, Mrs. Edith Hoyt of the University Extension Department, spoke to an
assemblage of women at the Congregational Church on Mothers in War Time. This club also took up some of the work of the Child Welfare Campaign, and superintended the weighing and measuring of all children in the city, under the age of six years.
