Extracts from Letters of the Boys With the Colors

(Copied from Newspapers)
From Private Helmer Olmstead (p. 116)

Paris Island, S.C., July 7, 1918.

"This is Sunday and tomorrow morning at six o'clock I go on the rifle range and learn how to shoot. We stay there about
two or three weeks and after we are through, we are ready to go most anywhere. We received the rifles today we are to use on the range.
"Do you ever hear from Art or Harry? I suppose it is hard to tell where they are now. Just wait till this war is over. Then
you will see all of us come marching home together.
"I must close for now as I have to go on guard duty tonight from ten to twelve o'clock.
"I get plenty to eat and all the sleep I need, so don't worry about me. I am getting along fine."

HELMER OLMSTEAD.
