Builder of Monitor Dies
Isaac V. Holmes Passes Away Suddenly at Wheaton Saturday
In Beloit Many Years
Man Who Built First Eclipse Windmill Plant Here and Superintended Construction of "Yankee Cheesebox" Stricken While Asleep.
Isaac V. HOLMES, who constructed the first Eclipse windmill plant in this city and
who superintended the construction of the famous "Monitor" at the Novelty Iron Works of New York, died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George SIEBERT of Wheaton, Ill., and the body was brought here for burial today.
Mr. HOLMES, whose reputation as a mechanical engineer has been national, had
never been sick in the 76 years of his life until about a month ago when he suffered an attack of rheumatism of the heart. The third and final attack came to him during a quiet sleep and he passed away without a moment's warning.
The body arrived here over the Northwestern road about 11:18 today and a simple
ceremony was performed at the grave by Rev. James A. Blaisdell.
Mr. Holmes is survived by a widow and five children. The children are: Fred E.
HOLMES of Beloit, who married Miss Alice KNILANS a few days ago; Mrs. George SIEBERT of Wheaton, Ill.; Mrs. E. C. RITSCHER, Tracy H. and Howard B. HOLMES of Chicago. The family resided in Beloit from 1877 to 1895.

(Note: Mr. HOLMES died on April 28, 1906; this article obviously dates soon after that. I'm just guessing that it's May, but it could be April 29th or 30th. - Lori)
