Mrs. Alice GLEAVE [nee HOUGHTON], better known as Grandma GLEAVE who has been a resident of the town of Porter for nearly 50 years, died on Tuesday, December 19th, aged 84 years. She was born in Cheshire, England and came to this country in 1846, setting in the vicinity of the old Ball Tavern. Her life was devoted to the care of the sick and afflicted, and she was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the fallen. The funeral will be held this afternoon from the Methodist church of which she has been a member for 50 years, burial at Ball Tavern cemetery. [p. 1, col. 4]   Courtesy of Ruth Ann Montgomery.
