FORMER LOCAL MAN CLAIMED BY DEATH
Charles Backenstoe Succumbs Thurs. Morning in Madison; Buried in Beloit
Charles W. BACKENSTOE, 69, a former Evansville resident, died at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Floyd E. BALLARD, Madison, early Thursday morning. Short funeral services were held at the grave in Oakwood cemetery, Beloit, at 4 p.m. Friday with the Rev. H. A. Studebaker officiating.
A fomer employee of the Baker Manufacturing Company, Mr. BACKENSTOE was
well known in Evansville. He was a former deacon and Sunday school superintendent of the Second Congregational church in Beloit and for many years was a foreman at the plant of the Yates-American Machine company there. He was a member of the Fraternal Reserve and Modern Woodman lodges.
Mrs. BACKENSTOE died six years ago and a year afterwards Mr.
BACKENSTOE went to Madison to live with his daughter. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Floyd E. BALLARD, Madison; two sons, Glenn and Harold both of San Jose, Calif.; and four sisters, Mrs. Lizzie ENSIGN and Mrs. Mary MAGEE, Beloit; Mrs. Lee HOISINGTON, Montford; and Mrs. George RICHARDSON, Vermillion, So. PIONEER RESIDENT CLAIMED BY DEATH
Mrs. I. H. Brink Succumbs Friday After a Lingering Illness; Buried here Sunday
Mrs. I. H. BRINK, 88, pioneer resident of Evansville and vicinity died in her home at
19 West Church street at 1 a.m. Friday following a lingering illness. She had been an invalid for the past five years.
Mrs. BRINK, formerly Miss Chloe E. HILL, was born in North Orwell, Bradford
county, Pa., Sept. 23, 1841 and at the age of 14 moved with her parents to Argyle, Wis., where she grew to young womanhood. She was married there to Isaac H. BRINK in April 1861 and moved with her husband to Evansville in 1867. Since that time Mr. and Mrs. BRINK have made their home in this vicinity celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary here in 1911.
Mrs. BRINK was a member of the Eastern Star and attended the Methodist church.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died in Nov. 1920 and three sons, Charles, Frank, and George. She is survived by one son, Jay Brink, this city; a daughter, Mrs. R. M. CARSON, Evansville; four grandchildren, Stanley BRINK, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Nira B. FAULKNER, Wichita Falls, Tex.; Leighton CARSON, Monroe; and Emory CARSON, Oshkosh; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Sunday in the home, the Rev. G. C. Saunderson
of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was made in Maple Hill cemetery with Bert BAKER, M. T. VANDERBILT, J. F. WADDELL, F. S. LEWIS, W. S. SPRATLER, and C. D. DOOLITTLE as pallbearers.
Among those from out-of-town who attended the services were Leighton CARSON,
Monroe; Emory CARSON, Oshkosh; Frank HIGGINS and Mr. and Mrs. F. H. DUGDALE, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. U. G. MILLER and Mrs. Ella PEACH and son, Glenn, Edgerton; Mr. and Mrs. Delbert SMITH and Mrs. Evaline HUBBARD, Brooklyn; Mr. and Mrs. T. J. PATTON, Whitewater; and Mrs. Ellen SCOTT and Gale HAWLEY, Argyle. [pp. 1 & 8]
