- Charles WALDO, a farmer living on the CALDWELL
place near Edgerton, was
- killed by lightning, Saturday afternoon and Henry KRUSE,
his hired man, was seriously injured.
- The two men were nailing a board to the water spout in the
barn when a bolt struck
- them. WALDO was handling the hammer, and KRUSE
was holding the board. When the flash, with the deafening accompaniment
of thunder came, WALDO fell over dead, while the hired
man was thrown to the ground with both legs partially paralyzed.
- Dr. McMANUS was summoned from Edgerton and said that
there was some hope
- for KRUSE, although he was badly burned, but pronounced
WALDO dead. The latter is 43 years old and leaves a widow
and eight children.
