- MILTON - The village received a shock Wednesday morning when
it was announced
- that Mrs. W. B. WELLS [nee Elizabeth Bowler SHERMAN]
was dead. Mr. WELLS woke in the night and found her
breathing with great difficulty, raised her and in a second or
two she expired. Deceased was in apparent good health, and
had been about the village making calls and expressed herself
as feeling in better health than for sometime previous. Her
death was caused by heart disease, with which she had been troubled
for some time. Mrs. WELLS came here after her marriage,
a stranger to all, but soon gained the respect and esteem of
all with whom she became acquainted, and will be greatly missed
in the community.
- The funeral services took place Sunday afternoon at the Seventh-Day
Baptist church,
- conducted by Rev. E. M. Dunn assisted by Rev. Mr. Bryant,
and was largely attended. Mr. WELLS' daughters, Mrs.
STEWART, of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Mrs. HALL,
of Syracuse, New York, were in attendance at the funeral, but
none of the family of the deceased were able to be present.
The W.C.T.U., of which Mrs. WELLS had been an active
member, and the Odd Fellows' Lodge, with which Mr. Wells is connected,
were well represented. The interment was made here. [Wednesday
edition, p. 4]
