- Milton - It becomes our sad duty to chronicle the death of
a good man in the person
- of William VINCENT, who died on Wednesday night. Deceased
has been an invalid for many months, but until within a few weeks
has been able to be about town and meet his many friends. His
death was caused by a combination of diseases that the skill
of his physicians were powerless to cope with. He leaves a brother
and three sisters to mourn his death and they have the sincere
sympathy of the whole community in their great loss. Deceased
was forty-six years of age and was one of the first white children
born in this township. He had resided here since his birth and
was noted for his calm, even temper, excellent judgment, and
kindly disposition, qualities that go to make up the good citizen,
upright official and accommodating neighborhood. He had the respect
and esteem of everybody who had the honor of his acquaintance
and will be greatly missed in this community.
- The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at the Seventh-Day
Baptist church, no
- other church in the village being large enough to accommodate
the friends and neighbors who wished to pay their last respects
to a worthy man. The services were conducted by Rev. W. Robinson,
pastor of the M. E. church, assisted by Rev. Wm. Walker, pastor
of the Congregational church, and the remains were accompanied
to their last resting place in the village cemetery by a large
procession. [Wednesday edition, p. 4]
