MAGNOLIA CENTER
Magnolia Center, Feb. 3. - A number attended a miscellaneous shower on Miss Pearl
CRAWFORD at the Magnolia hall, Saturday evening.
Several from here attended the charity ball at Evansville, Friday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. T. M. HARPER attended the funeral of the former's sister, Mrs. VAN SYKE, at
Spring Valley, Saturday afternoon.
Miss Beulah COLE was home over Sunday.
Fred WOODSTOCK was an Evansville visitor Friday.[p. 8, col. 3]

SHOPIERE
Shopiere, Feb. 3. - The Beavers met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. SPICER, Monday evening
and installed their officers after which refreshments were served.
The M. E. and Congregational ladies will meet at the M. E. church Wednesday for an all day
meeting.
J. SHIMEALL has been sick, but is better now.
Mr. and Mrs. Knute BERGE have moved into the PATRICK place.
Mr. SIMONSON went to Chicago, Saturday, to see Mr. QUIGLEY, who is in very poor health.
A number of ladies spent a pleasant time Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. SWEET.
Most of our young people attended the firemen's ball at Clinton, Thursday evening. All report a
fine time.
A dancing party at HAGGART's hall Friday evening, Feb. 7. Come and have a good time.
Mr. and Mrs. BRAND are spending some time in Milwaukee.
The A. B. C. social at the home of Mr. and Mrs. SWINGLE was well attended.
There will be a fifteen cent dinner at the M. E. church Wednesday, Feb. 12. Everyone is welcome.
Some of our young people got left in Janesville, Saturday, on the four o'clock train.
Mrs. Ralph BETTS has not been very well of late. [p. 8, col. 3]

WEST CENTER
West Center, Feb. 3. - There will be services at the German Evangelical church next Friday
evening at 7:30, Saturday afternoon at 1:30, followed by the quarterly conference. Communion service Sunday morning at ten o'clock. The Friday evening service will be in English. Rev. J. A. STEWART of Juda will conduct all of these services.
Mrs. WUTSTRACK and Mrs. William HARNACK went to Beloit last Friday afternoon to see
the former's daughter, Alta. She was to leave the hospital the following day.
Little Margaret ZIELKE had her shoulder dislocated a week ago Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. August SORNOW went to Brodhead last Tuesday evening to attend a wedding.
Charles GUNDLACK delivered his tobacco to Evansville buyers on Saturday.
Mrs. George PEPPER spent Thursday with relatives in Footville.
Frank WALTERS' little twin daughters, Ruth and Ruby, are sick with grippe.
Lee SNYDER was in Beloit on business one day last week.
George PEPPER and Charles WINKLEMAN attended the HEMMINGWAY sale near
Hanover last Thursday.
Quite a number from here attended William GRUNZEL's sale last Tuesday.
Sunday was cold enough to keep nearly everybody home.

Johnstown, Feb. 3. - The ladies of the M. E. society of Richmond will serve a dinner at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. F. ZIMMERMAN in Johnstown, Feb. 5th. An invitation is extended to all.
Frank KEMMITH of Darien spent Thursday at the home of his father.
Mrs. C. CRAIG is ill with the grippe and under the care of Dr. DIKE.
Mrs. E. AUSTIN is ill with an attack of neuralgia.
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. CARTER entertained friends at a Sunday dinner, from Milton and
Johnstown.
Mr. and Mrs. P. McFARLANE attended the church dinner Wednesday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John McARTHUR, Emerald Grove.
The patrons of the creamery are filling the icehouse this week.
Roy JOHNS and Grace MULLINS were week end guests at the home of Carr KUMLIEN.
Mr. and Mrs. John McARTHUR entertained Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McKEWAN and family
at dinner on Sunday.
Charles HURLBUT delivered tobacco at Janesville on Saturday.
Messrs. A. McLEAN and A. PINNOW are entertaining hay pressers this week.

EAST CENTER
East Center, Feb. 3. - Mrs. Will SAROW was given a miscellaneous shower by about twenty
of her friends last Saturday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. FISHER. At one o'clock a bounteous dinner was served and the afternoon, which was spent in a social way, proved all too short. Mrs. SAROW received many beautiful and useful gifts.
Mrs. J. S. ROHERTY is visiting her mother, in Edgerton.
A great many from here attended the sale at Will GRUNZEL's near Janesville last Tuesday.
J. H. FISHER and son, Graham, spent a couple of days in Madison last week, where they
attended the boys' short course.
Miss Ilene SANDS was an over Sunday guest at the home of J. S. ROHERTY.
Miss Verna DAVIS of Fort Atkinson spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. L.
DAVIS.
Charles PUHLE purchased two head of cattle and two colts at the GRUNZEL sale.
Miss Mary ROHERTY attended a dance in Whitewater last Friday night.

ROSWELL A. CRANDALL IS DEAD AT MILTON JUNCTION
Resident of Rock County Village For Twenty-Five Years Passes Away - Other News.
Milton Junction, Feb. 4. - Roswell A. CRANDALL was born at Brookfield, N.Y., in 1831. He
lived there until after his marriage to Juliette CRANDALL when he came to Walworth, where he lived until after the war. He spent six or eight years on a homestead in Minnesota. Later he came to Walworth and in 1890 he came to Milton Junction.
Besides a loving wife, he leaves to mourn his loss six children all of which are living. They are E. O.
CRANDALL, Mrs. O. G. CRANDALL, Mrs. G. E. COON and J. B. CRANDALL of Milton Junction, Mrs. F. O. BURDICK of Boulder, Colo., and Sherman CRANDALL of Brodhead.
Mr. and Mrs. F. S. HULL entertained the Five Hundred club Friday evening and a general good
time was had.
Mrs. A. D. FRINK has returned from her Albion visit.
Mrs. E. F. DAVY and daughter, Miss Edna, attended a funeral at Stoughton, Sunday.
Mrs. W. H. GATES went into Chicago today, where she will spend a few days with Mr. and
Mrs. R. H. ANDERSON.
Mrs. C. WOODWARD and little daughter are spending a few days at DePere.
LeClede WALTERS of Albion, spent the week with his cousin, Rex BURDICK.
Miss Winifred GOODRICH is home from Madison University for a few days.
Miss Linda BUTEN is quite sick at her home here. Her school near Johnstown, is having a

PORTER
Porter, Feb. 3. - About one hundred and twenty-five friends of Mr. and Mrs. Rich STEARNS
surprised them on Monday evening, Feb. 3. The time was spent in card playing and dancing. At twelve a delicious four course supper was served by six young ladies. As a remembrance of the occasion and as a token of the high esteem in which they were held, Mr. and Mrs. STEARNS were presented with a beautiful chair and a set of sterling teaspoons. Mr. and Mrs. STEARNS are to move to Leyden and will be missed very much by the social set as they gave each season a number of social events. The happy occasion closed at a late hour and the guests departed, complimenting the host and hostess as royal entertainers.
M. CULHAM of Stoughton was a Porter visitor on Sunday evening.
William McCARTHY, one of Nebraska's leading attorneys, is visiting at the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCARTHY.
Mr. and Mrs. Judd McCARTHY spent Sunday in Beloit.
Miss Lucile EARLE was a Janesville visitor on Sunday.
Jim McCARTHY is on the sick list.
E. A. BABCOCK of Milton was in town on Friday.
Messrs. M. McCARROLL and O. BOYLE delivered tobacco to Janesville buyers on Saturday.
Thomas STEARNS sold a beautiful driving team to Mr. LOCKE.
Misses Nora and Margaret McCARTHY of Janesville spent Saturday and Sunday at their home
in Porter.
Messrs. D. A. McCARTHY and N. McGINLEY delivered tobacco to Edgerton on Saturday.
Glenn LUDDEN and Dan McCARTHY depart for North Dakota on Feb. 18, for a short visit
with friends.
Miss Jennie McCARTHY spent part of last week with relatives at McFarland. [p. 8, col. 5]

FOOTVILLE
Footville, Feb. 3. - Mrs. Bayard ANDREW came down from Dayton Thursday, returning
Friday.
A large crowd attended the Ladies' Aid dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. P. WELLS
Thursday.
Mrs. E. C. FISH went to Chicago Thursday. She is expected home today.
Mrs. Etta PEPPER and Miss Emma GOOCH were Janesville shoppers Friday.
Francis BEMIS returned from Madison Friday.
Mrs. Cora FRASER was down from Evansville Saturday.
F. R. LOWRY goes to Milwaukee Wednesday to attend the Retail Hardware Convention.
Chas. TORPHY is out again. Mrs. DAVIS does not gain as fast as her many friends would wish.
W. J. OWEN was an Evansville visitor Thursday.
R. J. SARASY and little daughter Eva, went to Juneau Thursday and returned Friday. They
found Mrs. SARASY Sr., quite sick.
Mrs. Tom HERON is gaining from her recent illness. Her friends gave her a postcard shower
Sunday.
Dr. S. W. LACY was called to Evansville Saturday to see Geo. RICE.
Frank TREVORAH and family Sundayed with Edgerton relatives.
Rev. F. H. AMBROSE will commence special meetings at the Christian church next Sunday
