- PIONEER OF FULTON DIES EARLY TODAY
Oliver MURWIN Succumbs Following an Extended Illness.
Came to Rock County in 1854
[SPECIAL TO THE GAZETTE.]
- Fulton, June 16. - Oliver MURWIN, a resident of Rock
county and of the town of
- Fulton since 1854, when he came to Wisconsin from Ohio, passed
away at three o'clock this morning at his home in the village.
Mr. MURWIN had been in poor health for a number of years,
Bright's disease being the immediate cause of his death. He was
76 years of age.
- After coming to Wisconsin, Mr. MURWIN was associated
with his father in the
- shoe business at the village of Fulton. Later he purchased
a farm and for the last twenty-two years he has been connected
with his son, O. P. MURWIN, in the general mercantile
business here.
- In the early pioneer days there was scarcely a home in this
part of the county where
- Mr. MURWIN had not been called in times of sickness
and death. A man of kindly disposition, he was always ready to
lend a hand to others in the time of trouble and bereavement.
- In 1882 his health failed and for four years he was totally
blind, suffering with cataracts,
- one of which he had removed in 1887, but his health had been
poor since then. He bore his burdens cheerfully and with unflinching
will through his last illness.
- Mr. MURWIN enjoyed the high esteem of a large circle
of friends in all parts of the
- county. News of his death will be received with genuine sorrow.
- He leaves his wife, Anna P. MURWIN, one son, O. P.
MURWIN, of Fulton; one
- daughter, Mrs. Horace PEASE, of Chippewa Falls, Wis.
One son, Herbert, died fourteen years ago in March. There are
also six grandchildren: Herbert, Chester, Ella, Oliver, Evelyn
and George MURWIN, all of Fulton. He also leaves a sister,
Maria BROWN, and one brother, George MURWIN of
this place.
- Funeral services will be held from the home at two o'clock
Thursday afternoon.
- Interment will be made in the village cemetery.
