WELL KNOWN YOUNG MAN DIES SATURDAY
Joseph Frank Boylen Dies at Mercy Hospital Saturday Evening After Operation.
Joseph Frank BOYLEN, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. BOYLEN, 628 Chestnut street,
passed away at the Mercy hospital at ten minutes to eight Saturday evening after undergoing a serious operation for appendicitis. His death comes as a shock to his many friends as up to a recent date he was apparently in good health. Joseph BOYLEN was born in this city April 10, 1889 and had been a resident here during his entire life. He attended the graded and high school of this city and was very well known.
Mr. BOYLEN was a devout member of the St. Patrick's Catholic church and for the past five
years he has served as an usher at the church. He wsa also a loyal member of the Carroll Council Knights of Columbus lodge in which he held the office of Deputy Grand Knight. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. His passing away will leave a sad vacancy in the ranks of these organizations. For the past number of years he has been employed at the local Post Office and while in service there he has been a faithful and ardent worker for the government.
Besides his grief stricken parents he leaves to mourn his death one brother, Edward M. of
Poughkeepsie, New York; one sister, Mrs. George H. GAHAGAN of Beloit and many friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held from the St. Patrick's church Tuesday morning at nine o'clock. Interment will be made in the Mt. Olivet cemetery.[p. 5, col. 2; see also miscellaneous tidbits where his surname is spelled BOYLAN]

DEATH COMES TODAY TO MRS. F. F. LEWIS
One of Janesville's Most Beloved Women Passes Away at 9:30 O'clock This Morning.
After months of weary suffering, death came to the relief of Mrs. F. F. LEWIS at 9:30 o'clock
this morning and the tired spirit was at rest. Mrs. LEWIS was sixty-four years old. Two years ago last spring she returned hurriedly from South America, with her husband, and entered St. Mary's hospital for an operation, which at the time was not considered serious.
She made rapid recovery and soon seemed as well as ever, but the seeds of cancer developed,
and in spite of all that skill and loving care could accomplish, the frail tenement was unequal to the struggle.
Mrs. LEWIS led a busy, active life. She possessed an absorbing passion for music, was a fine
pianist and organist, and prominent in the musical circles of the city. The home, established forty years ago, was her paradise. It was noted for hospitality and good cheer, and her presence was like a ray of sunshine. Next to her home she prized her church, where she presided as organist until failing strength compelled her to sacrifice the task which to her was a pleasure.
The daily record of every life is its best eulogy and when a good life goes out but little can be
added to the history for words are meaningless in the presence of great sorrow. Mrs. LEWIS was a good woman and the little world, in which she lived, is better because of her life and influence.
She was more than a good wife becuase she was a companion. Her tastes and ambitions were in
harmony with her surroundings, and the man who made the long journey with her found her a comrade as well as a helpmate.
On the death of her youngest daughter, a few years ago, her mother heart prompted her to open
her home to two nieces, Ada and Irene LEWIS, who are still members of the family.
Mrs. LEWIS' maiden name was M. Victorine ROCKWELL. She was born at Gilbertsville,
New York, came west when a girl, was married in Whitewater to F. F. LEWIS, in 1877, and came to Janesville ten years later, where she has since resided.
The immediate family remaining are her husband, her daughter, Mrs. J. L. WILCOX; a sister,
Mrs. DEWEY of Chicago; and Ada and Irene LEWIS.
The funeral will be held at the home, 115 Jackman street, Wednesday afternoon, at four o'clock,
Rev. Ewing, assited by Dr. Beaton, officiating. [p. 5, col. 4]

Dwight E. Puffer
Word has been received in this city of the death of Dwight E. PUFFER, aged 66 years. He
passed away Saturday evening after a severe illness of several weeks. Mr. PUFFER was for many years a resident of Janesville and had a wide circle of acquaintances in Rock county. He was a member of the Odd Fellows' order. Fifteen years ago he went to Minneapolis where he engaged in the manufacturing business. His wife survives. [p. 5, col. 4]
