- PLEASANTLY SURPRISED ON FIFTY-EIGHTH BIRTHDAY
- Mr. and Mrs. Anton HEIDER and Miss Lena WELLNITZ
pleasantly surprised their mother,
- Mrs. M. WELLNITZ, on Friday evening, June 8, the occasion
being her fifty-eighth birthday. The evening was spent in playing
cards and dancing. The music was furnished by Anton HEIDER
and brother Frank of Pierce, Nebraska. Those present were Mr.
and Mrs. Frank WELLNITZ and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
KNOPES and family, Frank HEIDER of Pierce, Nebraska;
Frank BARESH of Johnstown, Mr. and Mrs. Anton HEIDER
and family, Mr. and Mrs. John WELLNITZ and family and
Miss Anna WELLNITZ of Johnstown. All the relatives and
friends departed at the wee hours of the morning, leaving Mrs.
WELLNITZ many beautiful presents and wishing her many
more happy birthdays. [p. 5, col. 4]
- MRS. MARY HICKEY CALLED BY DEATH
- Aged Resident of Janesville Passes Quietly
Away - Had Lived Here Over Half a Century.
- At 4:40 o'clock Saturday afternoon the final summons came
to Mrs. Mary HICKEY, one of the
- oldest residents of Janesville. Born in the Co. Wexford,
Ireland, she came to America when a young girl and was married
in Waterbury, Conn., to Michael HICKEY, who preceded her
in death fourteen years ago. The young couple came to Janesville
in 1856. Mrs. HICKEY was a woman of strong personality
and always had a kind word for everybody.
- One son and four daughters are left to mourn: James F. HICKEY,
Mrs. Margaret DOLAN,
- Kate C. and Sarah A. HICKEY of this city, and Mary
E. HICKEY of Milwaukee. She also leaves two grandchildren:
James F. and George Michael HICKEY.
- The funeral took place this morning at ten o'clock at St.
Mary's church. The services were
- conducted by Rev. Beccaria. The floral tributes were many
and beautiful. The pallbearers were T. P. BURNS, Henry
CULLEN, James SPOHN, Patrick KAVANAUGH and
Robert WILSON. [p. 5, col. 5]
- Miss Emma Millie Edmunds.
- Death came to Miss Emma Millie EDMUNDS Saturday evening
at about half past six, at her
- home, 28 South Jackson street, following an illness of about
four weeks. Miss EDMUNDS was born on August 1, 1873, in
the town of Harmony, but has been a resident of this city since
the age of fifteen. She had been employed at the Rock River Cotton
company for twenty years or more and left their employ only when
her health demanded it.
- She was a member of the Congregational church and of Crystal
Camp No. 132, R.N.A. Miss
- EDMUNDS leaves to mourn her death five sisters, Lena
of Suring, Wis.; Mrs. Harry GAFFEY of this city; Mrs.
Charles SPURR of Rockford; Mary and Laura of Janesville,
and a brother, Edward, also of this city. Henry C. KLEIN
is a half brother.
- Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock
from the home. The Rev. Charles
- E. Ewing will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Zion cemetery.

will be conducted by the Rev. Charles T.
- Ewing of the First Congregational church at the home, 320
Cherry street at ten o'clock Tuesday morning. Interment will

- Mrs. Mary McKewan.
- Funeral services for the late Mrs. Mary McKEWAN were
conducted this morning at nine o'clock
- from St. Mary's Catholic church. Interment was in Mt. Olivet
cemetery. The pallbearers were: Harold McKEWAN, William
McKEWAN, Frank GLEASON, Allen CRANE, Harry
SMITH and James HAULON. [p. 5, col. 5]
- Mrs. William B. Stoddard.
- The funeral of the late Mrs. William B. STODDARD was
held this afternoon at two o'clock from
- the home, 316 Washington street. The Rev. Raymond G. Pierson
of the First Baptist church conducted the services. Interment
was in Oak Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were: John C. HANCHETT,
Roy E. WISNER, John R. WHIFFEN, John T. FITCHETT,
J. Sieber TAYLOR, and Charles H. CHASE. [p.
