Footville Doctor Called by Death

Footville. - After an illness of several weeks duration during which time he had been
confined to his bed, Dr. S. W. LACEY died Saturday afternoon shortly after 4 o'clock at his home here. He was well and favorably known here and for miles around having been a successful practicing physician in this locality for upwards of 40 years.
Seth Ward LACEY was born August 5, 1856, in Laceyville, Pa. He came to
Orfordville in 1877 to practice medicine with his uncle, Daniel P. LACEY of that village. He was graduated with high honors from Rush Medical college, Chicago, in Feb. 1880, and in the spring of the following year located in Footville, where he had a large practice.
April 11, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Ella V. SILVERTHORN. One
child was born to this union, Calla Eva, now Mrs. Leon J. SPENCER of this place.
Aside from his duties as a physician, Dr. LACEY has always done his part in every-
thing that would in any way be beneficial to the good of the community. He was president of the Footville Telephone company since it was organized in 1902, the only president the compnay has had. He was one of the organizers and president of the Footville State Bank until he resigned in January owing to ill health. He has been a faithful and active member of the Christian church since he joined in 1887, being president of the board of trustees at the time of his death. He was a successful physician in active practice until April 6, 1918, when he was stricken with the illness from which he never fully recovered. This illness was brought on by overwork. He was a member of American, Wisconsin and Rock Co. medical associations.
Surviving are his wife, Ella S. LACEY, his daughter, Mrs. L. J. SPENCER and
grandson, Lacey Victor SPENCER, all of Footville, four brothers, and two sisters all of Laceyville, Pa.
