- Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Seventh
Day Baptist church at
- Milton for Clair [Eugene] HURLEY, 22, Milton, victim
of the gasoline explosion at the fire at the J. A. AUSTIN
farm Wednesday night. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery.
- While final tribute was being paid for the man who gave his
life in the attempt to save
- property, his companion, Leslie KNOPES, Milton Junction
fireman, was reported in fair condition at Mercy hospital. He
suffered severe head injuries and other injuries.
- Chapin HULL, Milton Junction, a third victim of the
blast, was brought to Mercy
- hospital Friday, for treatment for leg injuries. Curtis AUSTIN,
son of the owner, also suffered minor injuries at the fire.
- The three men were injured when a gasoline can in a burning
garage exploded,
- blowing out the end of the garage. HURLEY and KNOPES
were manning a hose a few feet from the building when the blast
occurred. HULL was standing near by. AUSTIN was
slightly injured while carrying water to the fire truck. [Saturday

- Milton - Mrs. William SAUNDERS MYER, 51, died
at her home in Custer Park,
- Ill., Dec. 30. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Haldane SAUNDERS, Milton. Funeral services will be held
in the Crandall Funeral home in Milton at 2:30 p. m. Sunday.
The Rev. C. H. Hill, pastor of the Seventh Day Baptist church,
will officiate assisted by Dr. Edwin Shaw. Burial will be in
Milton Cemetery.
- Charlotte [Anna] SAUNDERS was born at West Hallock,
Ill., in 1886 and was
- married to William MYER in 1914.
- Besides her husband she is survived by one son, John. She
was well known in Milton.
