- The Big Mill, one of Janesville's earliest businesses, burned
on June 29, 1871.
- The loss was estimated at $45,000.
- A year later, the ice skating rink at the corner of South
Main and South Second streets, was lost
- to fire. The passenger depot of the C&N Railway burned
the day after the skating rink blaze. That building was located
at Five Points.
