The Janesville Gazette

Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin

Police/Fire - Janesville Sesquicentennial

First election in cabin
The first election in Rock County was held Oct. 10, 1836, in a log house built by Samuel ST.
JOHN at Janesville.
Election turnout was reported as small. Even had women been allowed to vote, the turnout would
not have been much better as there were only six white women within six miles of Janesville and none in Beloit.
