Harriett E[dna] GRAY, age 85, of 318 Kellogg Ave., died Wed., Aug. 31, 1994, at
Mercy Hospital. Harriett was born at Burnett, WI, on Aug. 13, 1909, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (THOMAS) BROOKS. She graduated from Evansville High School in 1927. Harriett was united in marriage on Nov. 15, 1946, at Evansville, to Harry A. GRAY, who preceded her in death Dec. 9, 1980. She was employed as a telephone operator by Wisconsin Telephone Co. for 18 years and prior to her retirement was employed by J.C. Penney. Mrs. GRAY was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Alan (Marybeth) GRAY of Rockford, IL; 2 stepsons,
Robert (Joyce) GRAY of Janesville; Gerald (Ruth) GRAY of Milton; a stepdaughter, Delores (James) VanGALDER of Colorado; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Nathan (Adele) BROOKS of Tyler, TX; 2 nephews, Dr. Edwin BROOKS of Shoreham, Long Island, NY, and Rev. Delton BROOKS of Michigan. Harriett was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Mary Lou GRAY.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Sat., Sept. 3, at First Baptist Church, with
Rev. Sam Brink officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at Schneider Funeral Home. [Thursday edition, p. 2B]

Paul Mudge LOOFBORO, age 89, of 806 N, Ringold St., died Tues., Sept. 13,
1994, at Rock Haven. Mr. LOOFBORO was born on Feb. 21, 1905, in Welton, IA, the son of Horace and Hattie (MUDGE) LOOFBORO. He graduated from Welton Iowa High School and Milton College and received a Master's Degree and other credits from the UW-Madison in School Administration. Mr. LOOFBORO married Lela Marie PINTER on Sept. 8, 1926, in Clinton County, IA. Mr. LOOFBORO taught physics, chemistry and mathematics at Reedsburg, WI, and physics at Princeton University. He then was Superintendent of Schools at Wisconsin Dells from 1945 to 1951, then at New London, WI from 1951-57, and at West Bend, WI from 1957-1962. He then was head of the C.E.S.A. Program in Waukesha until 1967. Mr. LOOFBORO was a member of the Blackhawk Golden "K" Kiwanis Club and was a long-time Kiwanian in various cities where he resided; was a former member of the Janesville Noon Rotary Club, a member of the Milwaukee Tripoli Shrine, a 32nd Degree Mason with the Reedsburg, WI Masonic Lodge, had served on the Wisconsin State Fair Board for many years, was a director of the W.I.A.A. for many years, an active ham radio operator, and long active in astronomy.
Mr. LOOFBORO is survived by his wife, Lela; 3 children: Edna (Allen)
DEARBORN of Racine, WI, Paul Wayne (Dorothy) LOOFBORO of Naples, FL, and Edwin LOOFBORO of Fort Meyers Beach, FL; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Newton Elston (Mary) LOOFBORO of Janesville. In addition to his parents, Mr. LOOFBORO was preceded in death by a grandson.
Services will be held at Schneider Funeral Home, 1800 E. Racine St., Janesville, at
3:00 p.m. on Tues, Sept. 20, with Rev. Dr. Harry H. Johnson officiating. Mr. Loofboro's family prefers that memorials be made to Parkinson's Disease APDA, Information & Referral Center, 2320 N. Lake Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53211. [Saturday edition, p. 2B]

John B[urton] SEVERANCE, age 64, died Thurs., Sept 15, 1994, at home after a
courageous battle with leukemia. He was born in Milwaukee, WI, on Feb. 28, 1930, the son of Lyle B. and Ludell (CASSIDY) SEVERANCE. He married Mary P. HILT on Aug. 22, 1953, at St. Patrick's Church in Janesville. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1949, and then spent 4 years (1950-1954) in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vermillion. John was employed at W.R. Arthur (later JATCO) for 6 years; he then became a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Janesville, retiring in 1990 after 30 years of service. John was a member of St. William Catholic Church, in which he was very active in the Athletic Association, having coached CYO basketball for many years. He was a member of Moose Lodge #197, NALC Branch 572, NARF Chapter #44, and Evansville Golf Association. Before his illness, he was an active golfer and bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; 5 children: Jeanne M. GOULD, John M. (Lois)
SEVERANCE, James M. (Linda) SEVERANCE, Julie M. (Doug) SYMONS, and Jill M. VENABLE; 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Marshal, Andrew, Eric, Emily, Jonathan, Aaron, Amber, Matthew, and Patrick; and a twin brother, Jerry (Janet) SEVERANCE, all of Janesville; a sister, Patricia KASTNER of Annandale, VA; an uncle, Howard SEVERANCE of White Bear Lake, MN; many nieces and nephews and a loving family of in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Mon., Sept. 19, at St. William Catholic
Church, with Fr. Robert Reardon officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Schneider Funeral Home or from 10:00 until the time of service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to Hospice Team Care or St. William Catholic Church. [Saturday edition, p. 2B]
