- Stephana SHAW, age 103, passed away on Aug 19, 2002.
She was born in Milton
- to Edwin and Nellie CAMPBELL SHAW on Oct. 2,
1898, but spent most of her elementary and high school years
in Plainfield, NJ, where her father was a minister with the Seventh
Day Baptist Church. She returned to attend Milton College,
receiving a B.A. degree in 1920. Stephana spent two summers
studying at the American University in Rome in the early 1920s
and traveled through Europe on the Orient Express. Too petite
for the WAC and WAVES, she later served her country by driving
a truck for the Red Cross, stateside, during World War II.
She taught English and Latin in Walworth, Wisconsin Rapids and
Portage, and retired after 40 years of teaching at the junior
high level in Waukesha. She was a member of the Milton Women's
Club, bridge club and literature group.

- SHAW of Milton, Charles (Betty) BINGHAM of
Milton, Stephen (Nancy) BINGHAM of Safford, AZ, Linda
(Jack) HAYS of Chatawa, MS, Ruth (Robert) BERGER
of Janesville, Holly (David) ALEXANDER of Phoenix, AZ,
as well as by many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded
in death by a sister, Constance (Elton) BINGHAM; 2 brothers,
Leland (Vera) and Elston (Emma and Dorothy) SHAW, all
of Milton; and a niece, Mary (Herbert) BRIGGS of Bourbonnais,
IL.
- Friends may call on Thursday evening, Aug. 22, 2002, from
5 until 6 p.m. at Albrecht
- Funeral Home, Hwy. 26, Milton. There will be a private
family service. A memorial is to be established in her name.
