MILTON - [Miriam] Lucile TODD, age 91, of Milton, WI, died Fri., Feb 14, 2003,
at Mercy Hospital. She was born on May 9, 1911, at Elba, NE, the daughter of Asa Leigh and Delia Miriam (MONROE) PRENTICE, the third in a family of four. In the early 1920s the PRENTICE family moved to Kansas where Lucile spent the remainder of her childhood years. Lucile was raised a Seventh Day Baptist and continued to worship with the Seventh Day Baptists until her death, being a member of the Milton SDB Church. Although not a member of the Mayflower Society, Lucile was a descended from five of the Mayflower passengers.
She attended Nortonville, KS public schools and graduated from Nortonville High
School. She attended Milton College in Milton, WI, from 1930-1932, then returned to Kansas to go to Pittsburg State College in Kansas. She trained for teaching and taught in rural schools around Kansas. One was the Lane School just outside of Nortonville and also a school in Whiting, KS, before her marriage to R. Loyal TODD in Milton, WI, on June 12, 1935.
Lucile was a very generous person and always willing to help others. She was a
member of the Milton Grange, where she held numerous offices over the years. She was very active in the church and its affairs, especially the annual Milton SDB turkey dinner. In addition she worked at the Milton House [text obliterated on microfilm]. She was a source in compiling the published book, "The History and Genealogy of the Lexington, Mass. Monroes" written by Richard Monroe in 1966.
Lucile is survived by her husband, R. Loyal TODD of Edgerton Memorial Community
Hospital Long Term Care Unit; 2 children, James (Joyce) of LeCenter, MN, and Patricia TODD of Redmond, OR, a brother, William (Marie) PRENTICE of Leavenworth, KS; grandson Gary TODD; 5 nieces and nephews; 5 great-nieces and nephews, and three great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, a niece and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sat., Feb. 22, 2003, in the conference room
of Edgerton Memorial Community Hospital, with Pastor George Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. Albrecht Funeral Home of Milton assisted the family. [Thursday edition]
