- JANESVILLE / INDIANA / MILTON & MADISON- Marjorie Evelyn
- CRANDALL, age 83, died at Cedar Crest, Janesville,
on Jan. 13, 2004. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on Sept.
7, 1920, daughter of George H. and Edna (HURLBERT) CRANDALL.
She was a longtime resident of Milton and Madison, WI. She
graduated from Milton College and continued on in post-graduate
work at the UW Madison, where she worked as a science research
technician. She was a member of Seventh Day Baptist Church
in Milton. She was a quiet and knowledgeable person, a worldwide
traveler, a lover of nature and of all living things. Survivors
are a sister, Doris HALDIMAN of Janesville, formerly of
White Fish Bay, WI; a brother, Dr. George H. CRANDALL,
Jr., of Lake Oswego, OR; a sister, Mary (Victor) ANDERSON
of Reno, NV; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her parents. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at Cedar Crest Chapel in Janesville.

- MILTON - Fred Merton "Mert" GRAY, age 81,
died at his home Monday, Jan. 26,
- 2004 with all his family members present. He was born on
June 24, 1922 in Milton, WI, son of Fred and Jesse (FOX)
GRAY. He graduated from Milton High School, class of
1941. He married Elizabeth RUSCH on April 14, 1943.
He worked at G.M.A.D. and retired in 1983. He was a charter
member of Hope Lutheran Church for 30 years and belonged to Local
95. Fred is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Milton; son,
Richard (Sandy) of Illinois; 3 daughters: Kathy (Al) CARR
of Janesville, Judy (Randy) YTTRI of Milton and Dawn (Randy)
PENNING of Janesville; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents, brothers, sisters, and
a granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at Hope Lutheran Church of Milton, with
Rev. Ron Weber officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening
from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Albrecht Funeral Home, Hwy.
26, Milton, and on Thursday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until
time of services. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park,
Janesville. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials
may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or HospiceCare, Inc. [Tuesday

- MILTON - Margaret A. LOWTHER SMITLEY BURDICK, age
88, of Milton,
- passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at Cedar Crest in Janesville.
Margaret was born on April 28, 1915 in Milton to S. Norton
and Lola Grace (ROOD) LOWTHER. She graduated
from Milton High School and Salem College. Margaret was a teacher
before marrying her first husband, Chester J. SMITLEY,
in 1942. He passed away in 1948. She worked for Milton College
and then the Milton School System for many years. In 1968 she
married Roger M. BURDICK; he passed away in 1991. Margaret
belonged to the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church and the Women's
Circle. She was also a member of the Milton Historical Society.
Margaret is survived by her 3 daughters: Carolyn (Charlie)
BROWN of Milton, Mary Ellen (Richard) STEINKE of
Brodhead and Ginny (Tom) OTTO of Stevens Point; stepchildren,
Lynn KALINOWSKI of Lincoln, CA and Malcolm (Kathy) BURDICK
of Cedar Hill, TX; grandchildren: Mark (Jenny STEWART)
BROWN of Janesville, Jennifer (Scott) McMAHON of
Gillett, WI, Heather BROWN of Madison, Christopher (Anya)
OTTO of Janesville, Heidi (Sam) SIMKOWSKI of Stevens

of Bothell, WA, Wendy OTTO of Renton, WA, John KALINOWSKI
of Fortuna, CA, Karolyn KALINOWSKI of Walnut Creek, CA,
Alex IRWIN, Caroline BURDICK and Jarus BURDICK,
all of Cedar Hill, TX; 16 great- grandchildren; her sister, Virginia
CLOCKER of St. Paul, MN; her brother-in-law, Robert DURKEE
of Ontario, CA; 2 nieces; and several sisters and brothers-in-law
from her marriage to Chester. She was preceded in death by
a great-grandson; and her sister, Elizabeth DURKEE.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at
the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, with visitation from 9:30
until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Milton
Cemetery. Albrecht Funeral Home of Milton assisted the family.

- EDGERTON - Robert M[erton] BURDICK, age 93, of 601
York Rd., Edgerton,
- died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 at the Evansville Manor after
a short illness. He was born on Nov. 14, 1910 in Edgerton,
the son of Claude and Martha (DALLMAN) BURDICK.
Robert graduated with the class of 1930. Robert was a member
of the 1927 Edgerton High School football team, which was undefeated,
compiling 244 points to 14 for their opponents. After school
he worked with his father as a carpenter. He then served his
country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was a 1st
Sgt. of Hq. Co. 128th Inf. at the onset of World War II, and
served with distinction in the Pacific against the Japanese,
during which time the 32nd Division saw more than 600 days of
combat. After the service he was in the National Guard for
another 17 years, returned to Edgerton and helped build the Nunn
Bush shoe factory. He worked for Nunn Bush for over 40 years,
retiring in 1974. Living next to the golf course, he spent
many hours as a volunteer helping out whenever he could. He
is survived by a daughter, Ellen (Patrick) BOGAN of Indiana;
a son, Stephen BURDICK of Florida; a daughter, Nancy (John)
THOMPSON of Indiana; a stepdaughter, Barb (Richard) ROBEY
of Illinois; 13 grandchildren: Arija, Jessica, Elizabeth, William,
Stephanie, Cody, Kevin, Mike, Susan, Ann, Jay, Brian and Chris;
many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alan BURDICK
of Edgerton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3
brothers: Lawrence, Norman and Stan. Memorial services will
be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 at the Albrecht
Funeral Home, Edgerton, with Pastor Roy Poltrock officiating.
Friends may call on Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral
