JANESVILLE - Mildred L. MANOGUE, age 95, of 502 St. Lawrence Ave., died
Wed., April 13, 2005 at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home. She was born in Adams, WI on April 18, 1909, the 3rd daughter of Allen and Edith Lyle (BAUERMAN) COGSWELL. Mildred married Darrell “Dude” MANOGUE on July 22, 1931 in Whitewater and he preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1976. She was our mother with a green thumb, maker of the best chicken noodle soup and Christmas sugar cookies. She understood the importance of trying to do our best, to listen, and to care for those around us. Mildred was employed by Walworth County, Orfordville and Milton School Districts before her retirement in 1973. We remember a wonderful teacher who would take mittens, hat and scarves to school for her “youngsters” who might have forgotten or lost their own. She loved to play cards, read, fish, listen to her tapes and she loved kittens, poetry, and to travel. Phyllis and Nanci especially remember their trip to Ireland where she was a “mother” to all in the tour group. David remembers their trip to Niagara Falls and probably many fishing tips and being her euchre partner on Monday mornings. Darrel too remembers his days and nights working at Swiss Maid and Mother sometimes waiting for him to bring home those great ice cream sundaes. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, WREA, and Cogswell Historical Association.
She is survived by her 4 children: Darrel MANOGUE of Nevada, Phyllis (Bob)
ARNOLD, Nanci (David) CHRISTENSON and David (Gail) MANOGUE all of Janesville; her 9 grandchildren: Sue CULLEN, Don ARNOLD, Betsy TADDER, Dawn TOOMEY, Amy DUPREE, Shannon MANOGUE, Brady MANOGUE, Molly HAWKINS and Megan MANOGUE; along with 3 step grandchildren: Chris CHRISTENSON, Connie JOHNSON and Tom CHRISTENSON all who feel her influence on them; all her 13 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren who will be taught her ideals. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jerry; great grandson, Nicholas; and 3 sisters: Doris BASFORD, Margaret KAISER and Jessie KNAPPMILLER.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sat., April 16, 2005 at St.
Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Umhoefer officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary‘s Catholic Church. Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Now you can stand and walk without your cane or walker and you will see Dad, Jerry
and Nicholas waiting to take your hand and hear them say very clearly, Welcome.
Time takes all but memories. We will miss you. [Thursday edition]
