- MILTON - Helen R[uth] GREEN, 74, of Milton, passed
away Sunday morning,
- Jan. 15, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville after a brief
illness. Helen was born on June 12, 1931, in Albany, NY, a daughter
of J. Paul and Elizabeth GREEN. Helen attended Milton
College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Stout State
University. She taught home economics at Clinton, Black River
Falls, the UW Extension in Green County and Blackhawk Technical
Institute. She then received degrees in Christian education and
pastoral training from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and
Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. She was pastor of the
De Ruyter, NY, Seventh Day Baptist Church where she became involved
in prison ministry. She also did prison and jail ministry while
living in Verona and Rome, NY. She later lived in Daytona Beach,
FL, and Milton. Helen is survived by 2 brothers, Paul (Denise)
and Frank (Liz) of Milton; a sister, Georgia (Wayne) COLFLESH
of Sedalia, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services
will be held at 11.00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at the MILTON
Seventh Day Baptist Church , with visitation at 10.00 a.m. preceding
the service. Interment will be at the Milton Junction Cemetery.
Memorial checks written to the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church
will be forwarded to prison ministry efforts that Helen was involved

- JANESVILLE / EDGERTON - Alan L. BURDICK, 85, of rural
Janesville, died on
- Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Wm. S. Middleton VA Hospital. He
was born in Edgerton on Feb. 9, 1920, son of the late Claud and
Martha (DALMAN) BURDICK. He married Ione RIEDEL
on May 5, 1946, at St. John Lutheran Church, Edgerton, where
he was a member; she died on March 3, 2002. Alan graduated from
Edgerton High School, class of 1939, and lettered in all sports
during his four years there. After high school he joined the
Marines on Nov. 4, 1942, serving in the South Pacific as an aviation
mechanic. He was Honorably discharged on Nov. 3, 1945. Alan was
an excellent carpenter, who built all of his own homes including
all electrical and plumbing. Trained as a machinist, he worked
at Highway Trailer, Borgs Manufacturing, and retired from Gilman
Engineering in 1990. Alan was a very strong and patient man,
who was very mechanically inclined. He was always willing to
learn more, and he was always very encouraging to his family.
He always said, "Everything has a value, so don't waste
anything!" He enjoyed his beekeeping hobby, square dancing,
along with gardening, the outdoors and feeding the birds. He
was a past member of the Edgerton Volunteer Fire Dept., Conservation
Club and a member of the Rock County Beekeeper's Assoc., Milton
Village Square Dancing Club, and the Edgerton VFW. He is survived
by 2 children, Terri (Jim) ANDERSON and Jerry (Millie)
BURDICK, both of Janesville; 5 grandchildren: Eric and
Jamie ANDERSON, and Brian, Alex, and Beth BURDICK;
many other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and
parents, he was preceded in death by 4 brothers. Memorial services
will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at ST.
JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, Edgerton, with Rev. Carl Seeger officiating.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time
of services at the CHURCH. Memorials may be made in Alan's name
to St. John Lutheran Church, Edgerton, or to the Lutheran Social
Services Adult Day Care. Assisting with arrangements is the WHITCOMB-LYNCH-
ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, Edgerton. [Thursday edition, from
