Funeral services for Mrs. Clara [Elva] CLEMENT HOLMES, 69, former instructor
at Milton college, were held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at the Seventh Day Baptist church, North Loup, Neb. Burial was in the North Loup cemetery.
Mrs. HOLMES died at North Loup Saturday evening, Aug. 28, after a period of
failing health.
Born Nov. 23, 1879, she was married to Walter S. HOLMES in 1909 and graduated
from Milton college in 1906. She received her master's degree from the University of Nebraska in 1943[?] and did summer school work at the University of Colorado.
Mrs. HOLMES taught at the old Milton high school from 1906 to 1908, and in
Nebraska schools from 1915 to 1933. She joined the staff of Milton college to teach German in 1937. After serving as matron of Goodrich hall, Milton college girls' dormitory for 12 years, she left that position this spring and returned to North Loup.
Mrs. HOLMES is survived by one brother, H. H. CLEMENT; one sister, Mrs. W.
G. JOHNSON; and several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Theron OCHS, Milton. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
