- Funeral services for Walter E[nnis]
ROGERS, 69, veteran county supervisor and
- village clerk, who died early Thursday
in Mercy Hospital, Janesville, was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday
in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church, Dr. Edwin B. Shaw and
Dr. Carroll Hill officiating. Burial was in Milton cemetery.
- Pallbearers were members of the village
board, Edward ROOD, Elmer
- ANDERSON,
Elwood SHUMWAY, Prof. D. N. INGLIS, Walter SAYRE
and A. F. BLOMGREN.
- Mr. ROGERS was born May [20],
1880, in Marion county, Ill., the son of A. C. and
- Alice E. ROGERS. In the fall
of 1899 he came to Milton and enrolled in the Milton academy,
completing his high school work started in Illinois. He took
scientific courses for four years at Milton college, graduating
in 1902.
- Mr. ROGERS was named village
clerk in 1915 and served continuously. He was
- elected to the Rock county board of
supervisors in 1928, and served as vice chairman and chairman
during his years in office.
- Before purchasing his ice cream business
in 1914, Mr. ROGERS worked as a
- carpenter, photographer and printer.
- In 1915 the present building which
houses the ROGERS Soda shop and his home
- were built.
- Mr. ROGERS was married in 1905
to Kathryn BLISS, widely known in the area as
- an organist and pianist. She died in
August of 1938. He was married in December of 1939 to Mrs. Cordia
SLATER.
- Survivors are his wife; a son, Robert,
who with his family lives in Phoenix, Calif.; and
- two sisters, Mrs. A. E. WHITFORD,
Alfred, N.Y., and Mrs. Agnes SAUNDERS. He was preceded
in death by a brother, Orra. [Thursday edition, p. 5]
- Funeral services for Richard Loyal
HULL were held Wednesday in the Milton
- Seventh Day Baptist church with Dr.
Edwin B. Shaw officiating. I.O.O.F. services were held at the
Milton Cemetery.
- Mr. HULL died Monday morning
in Mercy hospital, Janesville, where he had been a
- patient for a week. He had been ill
for many months.
- The son of Richard and Jennie BUIRLEY
HULL, he was born in the town of Milton
- Aug. 24, 1880, and was married to Rena
May GREEN, Nov. 21, 1906. As a young man, he worked for
A. M. VAN HORN in a meat market in Milton, later becoming
a partner of Harry B. CRANDALL in the same work. He retired
to a farm in the southwest portion of the village of Milton in
1930. He was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church
and the Du Lac lodge of the I.O.O.F.
- Survivors are his wife; a daughter,
Mrs. James HUGHES, Milton; four sons, Harold,
- of Evansville; Ronald of Mallwood Estates;
Kenneth of Milton, and Richard, at home; and 11 grandchildren.
